y VILLE LIONS CLUB
HAS GALA AFFAIR
The Cloudland Hotel was the
scene Thursday evening of one
of the best parties of the sea
son when the Summerville
Lion’s Club held their annual
Ladies night.
In the lovely dining room of
the hotel, the tables were beauti-
I fully arranged and at each place
were gaily colored hats, horns,
balloons and other favors. When
the 125 Lions, Lionesses and
guests were seated, they im
mediately donned hats and the
fun began with not a dull mom
ent during the evening.
Irwin Thomas. President, an
nounced that John Davis was to
have served as Master of Cere
monies but that he had not ar
rived. Just then, "Solomon” ar
rived on the scene and agreed
to take his place. The said "Sol
omon” was no other than John
Davis and as Interlocutor with
his two end men “Lighting”
Dale Stone and “Puny” Archie
Farrar furnished an evening of
fun and laughter.
Surprise of the evening was
when John Davis took Dale
Stone’s place at the electric or
gan and played several selec
tions. It was first thought that
recording were being played but
soon learned that Mr. Davis is
a very talented musician. Dale ।
Stone’s organ music was, as us
ual. super.
Superior Court Judge H. E.
Nichols, honor guest, was Intro
duced and spoke briefly after
which he sang several solo num
bers.
RoundlHng out the evening of
fun was M. C. Tutton, tall twist
er of the club, moving among
the guests pulling many clever
tricks and collecting fines from
the members.

Reich Hotel, Gadsden, Ala., on
Wednesday, June 8. honoring
Miss Mary Laura Herndon,
bride-elect.
The table was centered with a
lovely arrangement of white
asters in a silver bowl.
The honoree wore a charming
green and white sheer dress
with white accessories. She was
presented a sliver bread tray
by the hostess.

Executive Committee
WMU Holds Meet
The Executive Committee of
the Chattooga County Baptist
Women’s Missionary Union held
it’s quarterly meeting Saturday
in the home of Mrs. Duke Espy.
The meeting was presided over
by Mrs. Espy, superintendent. A
devotional was given by Mrs.
Oliver Pledger and was from
Timothy 11, chapter 3, verses
15-16-17.
Literature chairman, Mrs.
Dunaway asked that all societies
urge their members to take the
required literature to be well in- 1
formed. Miss Kathryn Henry, j
Relief chairman asked that all
W. M. U.’s put on another drive
for clothing for the needy in
Europe. Mrs. George Morton of
the White Cross, also asked all
churches who have not contri
buted to some to do so.
Young Peoples Leader, Miss
Mildred Speer, spoke of the
young people going to camp and
told of plans to have a young
people’s social and put on a pro- ;
gram in the near future. Mrs.
W. M. Steel Missionary chair
man, plans to have a Mission
Study soon.
Community Mission chairman,
Mrs. Bryant, ask that all soci
eties doing unusual things in
! community to report to her.
There were 12 present.

Auxiliary, which was held at the
Auxiliary Home In Summerville.

An “Old Maids Convention”
was planned by the Auxiliary to

Music Club Holds
Final Summer Meet
The Summerville Music Study
Club met Friday at the home of
Mrs. John D. Bankston, where it
was disclosed that the club will
not meet again during the sum
mer months. The next meeting
will be in September.
Mrs. C. O. Walker, outgoing
president, conducted the busi
ness meeting. Final reports for
the year were given by com
: mittee chairman and suggestions
[for next years projects were
| brought before the club and dis
cussed.
The Music Study Club has had
a most successful year. The
[ music lovers of Chattooga Coun
ty have enjoyed a number of
musical programs sponsored by
the club during the past year.
The aim and purpose of the
Music Club is to promote the
best in music for our county.
At the close of the meeting
। Mrs. C. O. Walker was given a
rising vote of thanks for being
such an efficient president. Mrs.
Walker expressed her pleasure in
serving in that office.
A social hour was enjoyed
following the business meeting.

near future to visit with her

[ home near Gore. The John
Kings reside on the old family
homestead.
Miss King is at present visit
ing in Rome with the Bob Harp
ers. where her many friends wel
come her semi-annually. She is
a supervisor in the Bainbridge
schools.

was his little sister, Janet, who
has her 3rd birthday this

friends were invited. Instead of
one cake there were two, Terry’s
with five candles and Janet’s
with three. After much fun and
frolic, ice cream and cake were

GARDEN CLUB
CHANGES DATE
The monthly meeting of the
Chattooga County Garden Club
will be held at 3:30 p. m. Friday,
June 17. instead of the usual
i third Thursday. This change
took place because of the Meth
odist Broiling set for Thursday.
The meeting will be held in the
home of Mrs. John Agnew with
Mrs. Paul Weems and Miss Mit
tie Dodd assisting in serving.
Mrs. J. A. Duff will have the
program. All members are ask
ed to pass this news on to other
members and plan to attend.
