TO SING AT SATURDAY CONCERT
One of the groups who will sing at the
gospel concert scheduled Saturday
night at Chattooga High School cafe
torium is the Summerville First Baptist
Church Quartet. Other groups are the
AM&F Gospel Singers of Gore and the
Gospel Concert Saturday
A gospel concert will be
held at Chattooga High School
cafctorium at 8 o’clock Satur
day evening. The concert is
being sponsored by the staff of
the Chattooga Improvement
Day Care Centers.
Featured groups of singers
will include the First Baptist
Church Quartet, composed of
Jack Meacham. Wayne Groce,
Bill Petitt, and Hugh Canter
bury, with Mrs. Jack Meacham
is pianist; the AM&I Gospel
Singers of Gore, consisting of
Mis lineal Farmer Shropshire,
Mrs Linda f armer Morris, Mrs.
Aileen Adams Moseley, Mrs.

James E. Simmons, 66,
Route I, Menlo, Shinbone
Valley community, died un
expectedly at 9:30 a.m. Tues
day, Sept 11. He was born in
Walker County on Sept. 2,
1907. He was a past district
director and past exaulted ruler

children under 12.

ceeds from the concert will be
used for day care projects in
Chattooga County.

Mrs. Annie Belle Farmer
was supper guest of Mrs.
Gladys Wiggins Saturday
evening.
Mrs. Linda Morris and her
mother were in Rome Thurs
day afternoon. Afterwards
they visited Misses Annette and
Sandra Griffin and had supper
with them.
Rev. Charles Davis, along
with the other delegates, re
turned Sunday morning from
Los Angeles, Calif., where they
attended the National General
Missionary Baptist Convention
last week. Rev. Davis was the
breakfast guest of Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Jett.
Mrs. Paulette Black of
Cleveland, Ohio, returned
home Friday night after spend
ing her vacation visiting her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hamp
Mosley, and other relatives in
this area.
Mrs. Lawrence Hudgins
visited Mrs. Gladys Wiggins Sat
urday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gentry
were dinner guests of Mrs.
Lillie McCain in Rome Sunday.
They also visited Mrs. Ada

Funeral services will be held
today from the chapel of J. D.
Hill Funeral Home at 11 am.

ting. Burial will be in Center
Point Cemetery in LaFayette.

RECIPE

Apples are rated high in
nutrition and are delicious
cooked or eaten raw. The
apple season will soon reach
its height. This is a good
time to line up your favorite
recipes.
Apple Pan Dowdy
4 large tart apples
sliced thin
l 4 c brown sugar
1 c cake flour
1 T baking powder
pinch of salt
'4 c melted butter
Mt c white sugar
1 egg
'4 c sweet milk
1 t lemon juice
grated rind from one j
lemon
Arrange sliced apples in
heavy pan. Sprinkle the 1
brown sugar evenly over |
them. Stir white sugar into ।
melted butter and add un- 1
beaten egg and mix well. 1
Add combined dry ingredi- j
ents alternately with milk. '
Then fold in lemon juice and
rind. Pour this mixture over !
apple slices and bake in
350-degree oven 30 minutes, I
or until batter is done.
Serve warm topped with ;
ice cream or whipped cream. j
