Shooting Affray.
Some time since the barn of Robt
Earnest, in the Upper Tenth District
was burned, as was thought by ah in
cendiary. Afterward a woman living,
on the form of Marion Davis, told some
one that her husband had fired the
barn, at the instigation of Davis.
From this it became neighborhood
talk, and Davis became enraged at the
slander, and had threatened to kill
Earnest for starting the slander on
him From such reports earnest had
armed himself with a pistol, one day
last week, before going into a field to
mow grass.
That day Davis, with two neighbors
can.e to see Earnest, with a view to
settling the matter peaceably, While
discussing it, they became involved in
a quarrel, and Earnest shot Davis, as
it is claimed to prevent Davis shoot
ing him. Davis was seriously hurt,
but is said to be improving. Earnest
is keeping out of the way, but it is
claimed by his friends will appear at
the proper time to stand his trial.

A New Railroad from Athens to

Application for a charter has been

When an intellingent person makes
up his mind to try Smith’s Tonic Syr
up, made by John Bull, of Louisville,
Ky., he will not be persuaded by his
druggist to take some other remedy.
He will insist on his druggist getting
the medicine the medicince he wants,
even though he may have to wait a
week for it. When a family has once
used Smith’s Tonic Syrup and exper
ienced its quick effect in curing all
symptoms of malaria, chills and fever,
summer colds, etc., they never allow
themselves to be without it. An ii •
telligent father would as soon be with
out flour in the house as to be without
Smith’s Tonic Syrup. The children
like it, and its effect is always satisfac
tory.
Quite a number of cotton blooms
