To the Book Committee and Singers of

The following named gentlemen
have been selected as a book com

Dalton district.
Tt is hereby suggested that each of
the above named gentlemen will meet
at the court house on Monday of the
January term of court at 10:30 a. m.,
in the clerk’s office, then and there
to select a chairman and secretary
also to examine any books that may
be offered, also t oset a date for an
other meeting thirty or sixty days
later to make a final selection.
Should there be any member of the
above committee unable to attend, he
or they will please send a proxy, send
some one of your own selection to
represent you, and by this means we
hope to have the whole county repre
sented. Thereby we hope to have the
best singing all over the county for
1912 that we have ever had and by the
time the County Fair arrives we hope
to have more classes to contest for
the banner and prizes than can be used
in one day.
We also are going to have some
classes contest on special songs in the
Old Christian Harmony. So you
' older people ought to get busy and be
gin to practice for next fall.
Everybody is invited to attend the
next singing convention to be held at
Mt. Rachel church in North Dalton the
second Sunday in May and Saturday
before. Saturday will be the business
day and every class and Sunday
school are asked to send delegates on
that day. Let all of Whitfield county
pull for better singing for 1912.
Respt. yours for better singing,
W. G. TANKERSLEY,
President Whitfield Co. S. Con.

To Be Reached By a Big School
The Georgia State College of Agri
culture will organize a number of
traveling schools in the months of Jan
uary, February and March, under the
auspices of its extension department.
It is the purpose o fthese schools to
reach the adult farmers and to point
out to the merchants and business
men the value of agricultural educa
< tion in the upbuilding of the com
munity. Secretary Reynolds, of the
Dalton Chamber of Commerce is in
communication with President An
drew M. Soule and it is entirely pro
bable that the dates for the school in
Dalton will be March 6th to 9th. Mr.
Reynolds is taking the matter up with
some of Whitfield’s leading farmers
and those interested in the boys’ corn
clubs. .

PAVING
Bills Must Be Paid.
When seen by an Argus representa
tive this morning, Mayor Trammell
gave out the following with regard
to unpaid paving bills, and enclosed a
letter from the West Construction
Company, of Chattanooga, which is
self-explanatory:
Mr. Editor;—
Several inquiries have been made,
wanting to know the cost and interest
on unpaid paving bills.
The interest starts on all parties
that fi fas were issued against from
date of fifa. which was pril 29th,
rate 7 per cent. The cost of fi fa and
advertisement amounts to $6.00 in
each case. I hope those who have not
paid will do so at once and let Mr.
West have his money. I enclose let
ter from West Construction Company,
showing they are anxious to get it.
Very truly,
P. B. TRAMMELL, Mayor.
i
Chattanooga. Tenn., Dec. 16. 1911
Hon. P. B. Trammell, Dalton. Ga.
My dear Mr. Trammell: —We want
to extend our thanks to you and the
city officials of Dalton for the earnest
and sincere fight that they have made
in the interest of making the paving
collections at Dalton and sustaining
the city’s credit thereby.
While it is the duty always of the
city officials to protect the city’s ob
ligations as they do their own, we are
sorry to say that in a great many
cases they have failed to show the
interest that has been shown by your
self and the city officials of Dalton.
We have waited patiently in this
matter, although it has been an ex
treme hardship on us, coming at the
time that it did, but we felt confident
that the spirit shown by yourself and
the city officials would eventually se
cure for us our money. We trust
there will be no further delay from
the property owners in settling up
their past due indebtedness, as we are
greatly in need of the money.
Yours very truly,
THE WEST CONSTRUCTION CO.
L. B. West, President.
