Bow He Quit Drinking.
Chattanooga, Jan. 20.—[Special]—
A commercial traveler, representing a
J<Ouis\ille firm manufacturing a patent
cockroach exterminator, was here to
day and tells how he quit drinking,
“it was several months ago,” he said,
“and I had been drinking quite heavily
for about ten days. One day while here
I drank beer all day, at the same time
selling the cockroach exterminator at
the saloons about the city. When I
went to bed I was very full and imme
diately fell asleep. During the night I
was very restless and could not sleep.
Suddenly 1 heard a knock on my door
and responded, ‘Come in.* The door
opened and in walked two large cock
roaches, apparently about four feet in
height. They were walking upright,
arm in arm, and one of them, who was
evidently the male, wore spectacles.
Mr. and Mrs. Cockroach advanced to
my bedside, and I asked them what
they wanted. The one with spectacles
replied that I bad been waging war
upon insects and that he was there to
get revenge. He then littered a pecu
liar sound, when an array of thousands
of cockroaches eutered the room. Bach
one had bn his left arm a small tin
bracelet, ami in the right hand carried
a miniature dagger. They jumped on
the bed and every minute 1 thought
was my last. I was helpless aud'eouid
not move hand or limb. Tbe cock
roaches then stuck their daggers into
my flesh, and putting their buckets
under the wounds filled them with beer,
which, instead of blood, oozed from the
wounds. With their thousands of
buckets filled with beer, the cockroaches
left the room. When I awoke in the
morning 1 could hardly make myself
believe it was a dream. The lesson to
me was a horrible one, and I make an
immediate resolution I would quit
drinking beer and give natural blood a
chance to flow through my veins,
have not touched ad:
never expect to.’
