Washington county, is to enter the race
against Congressman W. H Fleming.

lawyer of that section of the state, has
represented Washington county twice
in the legislature and has a large num
ber of strong friends in his congressional
distriot.
Mr. Fleming has served several terms
in congress and bus mode a splendid
record, which will go far towards send
ing him back.

THE CONTROVERSY
ABOUT NANCY HART
THE FILIPINOS
NOT PACIFIED
The Brunswick News pays its respects
to those who Bay Nancy Hart is a myth
as follows:
••Are all our idols to be shattered, all
our traditions to be proven myths? Is
Nancy Hart the baseless fabrio of a
dream ? Is every cyclopedia or
biography, history of the revolution,
Statistics of Georgia by White; Gov
ernor Gilmer’s work on Georgians, a
governor who lived in the section where
Nancy Hart’s cabin stood; who, as a
member of congress in 1881, offered
resolution that a niche be reserved for
Nancy Hart in the Temple of Fame in
the Capital driving Tories before her—is
all this evidence to be treated as value
less because certain investigators are un
able to satisfy themselves now that all
evidence is destroyed ; that the incidents
of her cabin, the killing of enemies of
the revolution, is untrue?
“Is the cabin where her deeds of hero
ism occurred and which stood long after
1800, to be declared never to have ex
isted because no traces of it now remain ?
“Nancy Hart did live—lived where
tradition says she lived ; was the wife of
Benjamin Hart; moved with her hns
min Hart died; moved from here to
Alabama, thence to South Carolina.
She had children, among them Benja
min Hart, Jr., who lived here for many
years thereafter.
“The old home stood on Howe street
near Newcastle street until 1879. Many
old citizens after the war knew all about
her ; some, as children, had seen her;
all had heard from her through their
parents, and knew directly from her
children of her exploits in the revolu
tionary war. She was nanght but a
most substantial masculine woman of
flesh and blood who walked these streets,
who killed her Tory enemies, who was
what history declares her to be—a hero
ine of the Revolution.”
And now comes the news of another
slaughter of American troops on the
island of Samar, ODe of the Philippine
gronp. Troops are being rushed to that
island to put down the insurrection.
Presently the report of complete pacifi
cation will be sent out, and in a few
weeks insurrection will break out again.
This is the way it will be for years to
come. The United States will rue the
day on which they determined to hold
this territory against the wishes of its
inhabitants.

THE ATLANTA DEPOT
QUESTION UP AGAIN,
The legislature at its approaching ses-
»ion will be confronted with the Atlanta
depot qnestion again. It is already be-
ing agitated and is sure to be an issue
before the solons as soon as they settle
down to bnsiness.
We have no objection to Atlanta hav
ing a new depot. 8he needs one and
needs it badly. The state wonld doubt
less save money by building a new depot
upon its valuable terminal property in
that city, and wonld probably suffer a
sharp loss should the railroads leave
there aud build a depot of their own at
another point In the city.
If the legislators can devise a safe and
constitutional way in which to erect this
depot, let them do it, but there should
be no attempt to override the plain letter
and the evident spirit of the state con
stitution as was done last year when it
was attempted to build the depot ont of
the pablic property fond

Eruptions
Dry, moist, scaly tetter, all forms of ec
cema or salt rheum, pimples ami other cu
taneous eruptions proceed from humors
either inherited, or acquired through de
fective digestion and assimilation.
To treat the-c eruptions with drying
medicines is dangerous.
The thing to do is to help the system to
discharge the humors, and to strengthen
the digestive and assimilative functions
against their return.
