Dr. Daves read as the first lesson the
90th Psalm and Dr. Yonng read the
second lesson.
Dr. Daves based his remarks on the
10th verse of 2d Timothy : "Christ wl o
hath abolished death and brought life
and immortality through His Gospel.'
Death is a universal fact as life
is a universal fact, but since the
comiDg of Chnst into the world, th.
Master has taken away the sting
death.
Comforting words were found iu the
thought of what the life of the good
man had been and what It will be. The
memory of his good deeds and tho life
lie has lived will never be destroyed and
the happy future of immortality and
peace is a solace in the time of monrn
ing.

COTTON LETTER.
New York, May 16.—The market
opened weak and doll this morning on
loconnt of the uncertainty of the ont
come of tho coal troubles and also on
xocount of other news, sooh as generous
rains where needed and a number of
spleudid crop reports from the south
The market declined 6 to 10 points the
first half hour when a more conservative
temper was displayed. Receipts were
quite liberal at the moment, and the
movement for the week was so near ex
pectations as to have noinfluenoe on the
market. Stop orders in many quarters
especially from Wall street helped the
lower tendenoy and the underlying
t me was weak especially as manlpnla
tors were talking one way and acting
contrary in attempt to shape the course
of priers. Some fear was expressed of
too muoh rain cansing grass in some
seotions. The weekly Liverpool report
was In Bomerespeots bearish and in some
rospeots bullish. The all kinds de
creased for the week 18,000, but are still
230,000 ahead of last year while the
American lost 11,000 and is still 89,600
ahead of last year. The afloat stock
gained 6,000 and now 8,000 less than
last year. Some Texas accounts were
that although crop conditions are quite
fb.o, generous rain would be needed
the balance of the season and that these
must be well distributed. Insight fo?
for the week 60,000 against 80,000 last
year.

A glowing description is given by
those who accompanied the party of the
recent visit of the teachers and later,
the pupils of the Lacy Cobb Institute to
Tallnlah Falls.
A party of teachers left last week and
e ijoyed three days at the beautiful
mountain resort and the trip was an
ideal one. Several beautiful descrip-
descriptions were written of the gor
geous scenery of the mountains and
chasms as the teachers saw them in
their long rambles daring the day, who
in tho evening wonll group themselves
tho veranda of the Lucy Cobb cot
tage and sing, tell stories and ircite
favorite passages firm stoiy and myths
ind enjoy a truly intellectual feast.
Then came forty happy girls freed
from the schoolroom Lira few days
and literally captivated every heart in
the little mountain city.
The girls were turned Moose in the
mountains and having only two yonng
gentlemen as guides, roamed the moun
tains and valleys for two days, and
found that happiness which comes only
in the time of yonth and health.
The party chartered special cars ss
they came home and were tho life of a
whole train. They remained a short
while at D.inior^st and were serenaded
by tho hoys of the school there, had a
delightful luncheon at Cornelia and
later rolled into Athens singing the
strains of ''Homo Sweet Home” and
Georgi i R ill.”

A minister’s wife had qaite a tussle
with coffee and hor experience is inter
esting. She sayB, "During the two years
of my training as a nurse while on night
duty I became addicted to coffee drink
ing, for between midnight and four in
the morning, w hen the patients were
asleep, there was little to do except make
the rounds, and it was quite natural that
I should want a good, hot oup of coffee
aboat that time. It stimulated me and
I could keep awoke better.
After three or four years of coffoo
drinking I became a nervous wreck and
thought that I simply oonld not live
without my coffee. All this time I was
subject to frequent bilious attacks, some
times so severe as to keep me in bed for
several days.
After being married, hnsband begged
me to leave off coffee for he feared that
it had already hurt me almost beyond
repair, so I resolved to make an effort
and release myself from the hurtful
habit. I began taking Postum Food Cof
fee and for a few days felt the languid,
tired feeling from the lack of the stimn
lant, but I liked the taate ot Postum and
that answered for the breakfast beverage
all right.
"Finally I began to feel clearer headed
and had steadier nerves. After a year’s
use of Postum I now feel like a new

Messrs. W. P. Vonderau and Cobb

The body was met by a number of ex

The interment took place in Linwood

funeral was largely attended by many
of bis friends in Columbus.
Tho Columbus Enquirer Sun says of
him :
The news of the death of Mr. W. B.
Jones, at Athens, was received with
great sadness in Colombas, where he
had a host of friends. Mr. Jones lived
here many years, and there were few
men who were better liked. He en
joyed the warmest; friendship of almost
everybody with whom he came in
contact. Friendship with him was more
than a name, for he was never happier
than when serving a friend. His home
life was beautiful in its love and devo
tion, and he was an ideal hnsband and
father. While a resident of another city
for the past few years, he never ceased
to think of Oolumbns, and hiB friends
here, and on the occasion of a visit, some
two years ago, had the pleasure of meet
ing many ot those whom he had known
so intimately doting his long residence
in this oity.
