The annual reception of the Clover-,
burst Country olub will occur at the
clnb house next Monday evening, May
19. The house and grounds are being
elaborately decorated for the occasion,
and the reception will be the largest so
cial event of the spring. After the re
ception, an elegant lunch will be served
and a German will follow. Beardens
Band from Augusta will furnish the
music for the dance and many out of
town society people will be in attend
ance.

Rev. Troy Beatty returned last night
from Augusta, where he has been at
tending tho annual convention of the
Episcopal Diocese of Georgia.

Mr. John R Tnck, one of Clark,
county’s most respected citizens, died at
his home in this county yesterday at
one o’clock. The immediate cause of
the death was dropsy.
Mr. Tuck was fifty seven years olri
»nd leaves a wife and five children. H,
was a brother of Mr. T. 11. Tuck and a
cousin of Col. H. O. Tnck, of this oity
He was a North Carolinan by birth bu'
moved to this county in hisjearly boy
hood and has spent his entire ' fe here
He was a successful former, a splendid
citizen and a devoted Chtistiau.
Mr. Tnck was a prominent Odd Pel
low and Mason and took a great deal o'
interest in the orders.
The funeral will take place at th<
residence tomorrow morning at ten
o’clock, and the interment will be in
the family bnrying ground near his res;
dence. The funeral services will be
conducted by Rev. J. V. M. Morris.

Officers D W. Hill and Walter Jack-
son captured the negro yoteiday who
was discovered under a bed in the resi
dence of Mr. W. G.-jiilree Thursday
night
The negro was found loitering urrr
the upper bridge and he fi-ted the de
scription given by Mr. Godfreo. He
was taken to headquarters wheic he
gave his name as Henry Clayton. He
stoutly denied the charge of being in
the house.
Later. Mr. Godfree came and ful y
identified the negro; an,l he will be
tried in police court this morning.
