Much Discussion About the New Street to

morning was a hummer.
The city hall went through like a flash
With bat two dissenting rotes and a
bond election called for Sept. 25th.
In disenssing the motion to pass the
ordinance warranting the election, many
members of the connoil gave expression
to their views.
Judge Foster said : "I am greatly in
favor of having a new city hall, but
from discussions with a number of citi
Zens, 1 believe that the finances of the
city do not warrant the issnance of
bonds at this time. At any rate I think
the finance committee should look into
the matter of the city's finances care

oondition before any father notion was
Alderman A. H. Hodgson said: "I
have had many talks with the business
men of Athens concerning the new oity
hall and I have not heard a single dis

and the Interest on the bond issue will
not be over $3,000, and there will be no
trouble in providing for that amount.
Let os test the sentiment of the people
and give them the privilege of saying
whether we shall have the new oity hall

Alderman Weatherford expressed
himself as thinking that $30,000 was

into the matter and they have carefully
investigated all the existing needs and
conditions. I shall not oppose the
amount recommended. As in the case
of building the water works, we should
look toward tho future. I do not think
the debt is too great, and with good
financial work we can easily meet all
obligations."
A vote was then taken and the reso

The question of making the new road
from the bridges to meot the new Sandy
Greek road was the next and only other
matter taken np and it brought on a
solid hoar and one half of discussion.
No. 1 route running from the oity
limits via Oollege avenue bridge and

the commissioners were very anxlons to
have a splendid road into tho city, they
would out down their price to |?00, the

this right of way, Mr. George Booth

snbmit his to arbitration and Mr. O.
W-, Cooper will take $176 for his.
Alderman Hodgson submitted the
proposition to bnild this street, and said
that it was an exceedingly liberal and
fair one. He said the low price at
which the road would be built by the
commissioners was only done because
the oomminioners had taken so mnoh
