Valuable time is lost in fruitless efforts to heal

announce the approach of the eating and sloughing stage, and a hideous,
sickening cancerous sore begins its
destructive work. In February. 1S90, I noticed a small

BEAUMONT MURDER MY8TERIE8.
Texas Town 16 Again Excited Over
Supposed Crimes.
Beaumont, Tex., Aug. 27.—It seems
that Beaumont is to pais through an
other series of murder mysteries simi
lar to that which caused so much ex
citement several months ago when
five or six bodies weie taken from
the river in a short spi.ee of time.
Sunday the body of a white man
was found floating in tie Neches riv
er, about half a mile below the draw
bridge of the Kansas City Southern
railroad, and about nx>n yesterday
the second body was found in the
same vicinity. The floater found yes
terday was buried without identifl-
eation. but from appearances it was
fhe body of a Mexican laborer be
tween 30 and 40 years of age. The
body had evidently been in the water
about two days, and when found was
among some bushes and logs in such
a way as to make it necessary to tpw
it up the river a short distance be
fore it was removed. There was a
slight wound over the left eye. This
wound might have been caused by
small caliber bullet.
The body of the man found Sun
day was exhumed this morning and
examin'd by two men who identified
it as that of Jiin Broderick, an Eng
lish brick layer. It Is presumed
Rroderlek attempted to walk across
and fell from the bridge while Intox
icated Absolute mystery surrounds
the death of the Mexican, whose body
was found yesterday.

Arbitration Logical Method of 9st-
tling Labor Troubles,
Pittsburg, Aug. 27.—Justice Shims,
of the United States supreme court,
who has Just arrived In Pittsburg
from a long vacation spent along the
northern shores of Lake Superior, re
fuses to discuss his reported retire
ment from the bench further than to
say that Preiident Roosevelt would
be the first person to learn of it. and
that he had not received the announ< e-
ment yet. Of the anthracite ccal
strike. Justice ShiraR said:
"Arbitration is the logical method
of settling labor troubles such as this
one which affects the general pn s-
perity and comfort of a great sec
tion of the country. Tho meth id
and enforcement of this arbitration is
a subject for the lawmakers of the
nation; but arbitration itself ie logical
There is now one great difficulty
standing In the way of an arbitration
law. Many of the labor unions are
not Incorporated. Until they aro, no
law can be made binding, as no con
tract or agreement could be enforced
upon them, while the operators on t.ie
other hand could be held liable. In
corporation of all labor unions is the
primary step toward the passage of
an arbitration law. Both parti ’9
must be reponslble for the carry ii g
out of an agreement and until they
are there is little hope of possible Ar
bitration of labor troubles.”
