The Tax Bill is a long step in the
right direction—It will force the rich
and poor to b< nr equally the heavy
bunions. The p'»or man with his
small farm, where everything he
owns, is exposed to the eyes of tht
tax niHti—can’t dt»dgi; lie pays full
value 011 everything he owns The
rich man has many ways of hiding
their property, and it is the rich who
cry the loudest about heavy burdens
-it is the rich man and corporations-
they are the real tax dodgers. Make
all bear alike this burden —and a bur
denit will be, if the pittance doled
out tor tho common schools is cut
down, in the name of retrenchment
aud reform.
Then and Now.
We have read with a great deal of
interest Gov. Candler's message, and
in all his talk of retrenchment and
reform he see fit to give a dig at the
school appropriation. Gov. Gaudier,
in his race for gubernatorial honors,
was loud-mouthed about his interest
in the children of Georgia and that
he would never be in favor of taking
one dollar from that approptiation;
uow this is one of the ways he advo^
cates for retrenchments, and, his tea
sons are so far fetched that any one
can only be disgusted, who has any
interest in tho children of Georgia—
only the elementary branches should
bo taught.
