The London Times, in it- money arti cle of the 48th September, speaks of the < 'anada harvest as the largest crop taken from the soil oft anada for fifteen years, and congratulates the people of Eng land on the liberal supplies of wheat that may be expected from that colony. Iteceptions of the President. At Louisville, Nashville, and places further South, the President and party were received with hearty welcome by vast multitudes of the pe pile, and the speeches delivered, as the i'nnrir?-./iir unl remarks, were all in tiie same strain. Whether Hayesor Hampton spoke, Kv arts or McCreary, Shurz or Key, the ap peal was “ let n- forget and forgive; let us be one people; let by-goues be by gones: let ns have peace: let us restore the Cnion under the Constitution, and try to build up our material fortunes." Best of all, the people earnestly applau ded every sentiment in behalf of con cord and national unity. In the programme of reception, the Mayor of Louisville delivered rite fol lowing brief and admirable address: ‘"Mr. Psesidnil —The people of Louis ville, the metropolis of Kentucky, proud of their grand statesman, "Old Harry, of the West,' who uttered one of the no blest sentiments that ever fell from the lips of mortal man: ‘I would rather he riijht than President,’ greet joyously his disciple—that President of the I'ni ted States who, at a critical period in the history of a flairs, had the courage to say: ‘He serves his party best who serves his country.’ Irrespective of party, race or sect, we welcome your Excellency gladly to our home, and bid you God speed in your labors of love, reconciliation and reform." Ar Louisville, Px-Confederate soldiers acted as a guard of honor to President Hayes, while Gen. Wade Hampton was attended by a guard of ex-Federal sol diers. We ipiote from a leading paper, tin* following: * 4 It is now iplite evident that the result of this tourof the Presi dent will be the final and complete -et flement of the Southern question. < er trinly no Northern statesman will be rash enough to attempt to open up that dead issue in the face of the recent de monstrations of loyalty which the peo ple of the South have made. It is not difficult to understand the cause of the President's success in making the work of reconciliation perfect. The integri ty of his personal character and the pu rity of his private life, explain every thing. Tiie people have confidence in his honesty, and lienee lie commands their syniptahy * and confidence to an extent which no demagogue could do. The country now breathes anew atmos phere. The disintegration of old par lie- will now go on more rapidly Ilian ever. For a time at least all partisan ship will la* at a discount.
