vinced us that the wheat crop is more

The Excursioiiits found it rather a
windy trip to Ebenczcr last Sunday.
Tuesday was a splendid day for pic
nickers, ducks, etc.
The Council will decide next Mon
day night whether or not Marietta
shall have a steamer.
Mrs. Sarah Laura Beckwith, of Au
gusta, is on a visit to the family of W.
K. Root.
Mr. Robt. Galt of Knoxville, Tenn.,
was in the city Sunday.
On last Saturday night a large and
brilliant meteor appeared to the. citi
zens of this place. Its course was from
North-west to South-east.
On last Thursday night the resi
dence of Mr. Henry White of Cherokee
county was destroyed liy tire and ev
erything in it was lost. He is a son of
Mr. Daniel White of this place and is
an energetic and worthy young man.
Gone at last. —Oil last Sunday even
ing all that was mortal of the re
mains of old Squire Gault were con
signed to their last resting place in
the citizens cemetery. He was eighty
five years old at the time of his death
and was widely known as the author of
•‘Gault’s Reports.”

Intosh and Uucle dim Lindley were
returning from this place to Powder
Springs, last Monday, they met with
quite a serious sutash-up. A horse
driven-behind them with a load of gu
ano, ran away and as he passed them
in his mad flight struck 'heir vehicle,
breaking off one of the wheels and up
setting the aforementioned gentlemen
in the middle of the road. Their lioi>e
then became frightened and wound up
affairs by completing tin- demolition of
the buggy. Fortunately iieirtieir gen
tleman received injury.
Ail Fools Day came in cloudy and
enough rain fell to drown a duck. Very
tew were taken in with the custom
ary sells except a crowd of darkies who
w ent to Ihe down train to see the wild
injuns.
It is said that a ineotiug was held by
the negroes in this place last Monday

As Mrs. A. C. Edwards and Mrs. At
kinson were driving along Dallas street
on a visit to this place last Saturday,
the horse they were driving became
frightened and making a sudden turn
threw Mrs. Edwards under the wheels.
Several serious bruises w ere sustained
but it is hope that she will soon be en
tirely recovered.

Lind ley returned from New York last
Sunday and brought w ith him the
largest and most select stock of
goods ever put on exhibition in this
place. Those who have so long held
back waiting for Mr. Lindlevs return
will now hastento make their purchases.

Our friend t. X. Scott is putting his
farm tinder fences, showing a de
cided taste for improvement and indus
try.
Our farmers are about done planting
corn and the planting of the grain crop
is larger than usual. Wheat is prom
ising and if no blight befalls it ‘cake’
will be no rarity on wild-horse.
Mr. Jack Pritehet was stricken down
whilst at work one day last week and
! lias been seriously ill ever since.

We have just learned that on Monday
j evening last, on his return from Mari
! etta. Judge Mclntosh’s horse ran away
and utterly demolished his buggy. We
are happy to learn that tlie Judge and
Thiele Jim Lindley, who was with him
escaped unhurt.
Now is the proper time for planting
melons. Plow deep, fertilize well and
with proper cultivation you will have
melons without ‘hooking’ your neigh
hors

iast Saturday at my house in this place
an elegant quality of soap for washing
clothing &c., I think persons who de
sire to have soap made would do well
to give him a trial.
