SHERIFF STEPHFN'S LATEST.
In regard to the capture of
George (’. Beresford, by Sheriff'
Pink Stephens at this place last :
Tuesday. Ih e Constitution of the

“Upon the authority of a tele
gram from Chief Anderson, of;
this city, Sheriff Pink Stephens
of Marietta, arrested yesterday
morning a white man who gives
bis name as George Beresford
who . it appears, Inis been guilty
of a. score oi l hefts and swindles
in this and neighboring cities
and town-(luring the past few
weeks.Some days since Chief An
derson received a telegram from
Chief of Police Adams of Macon,
authorizing and requesting him
t arrest the above minimi person.
Before Chief Anderson could
lay bis bands'on Beresford, how
ever, he had arrived in Atlanta
and bad practiced a sharp piece
of business here which we shall
relate as follows: A few days
since Beresford appeared tit the
store of Mr. J. M. < 'rawfoiW, who
does business near Tight Squeeze
and after representing himself
as an agent ol Tommey, Gregg
A Beck, asked if lie mighl sell

Mr. Crawford concluded to
make the purchase, and gave
Beresiord an order, written in
pencil, payable to T. G. A B. for
