from Humburg, Stuffed Mango Pick-

Kidnappers.
A report is in circulation among
the ignorant colored, people that
there are a band of kidnappers
around town stealing young negroes
for medical students to dissect, and
there are actually some among their
number who believo it Among them
is a colored cook who could not pre
pare hor.enSployer’s breakfast yester
day morning from grief. She said
her husband and little boy had been
stolen, and “by dis time dem young
doctors is cuttin’ dem up to see how
dey put togedder.” She was asked
by her mistress-if she and her. hus
band had not had a quarrel. She
said they had. Then said she, “your
husband has taken your boy and
gone back to Darien.” At last ac
counts the.bereaved wife and mother
wps heading for Darien. Others tell
of being chased by men at night, and
of their wonderfully narrow escapes.
We hoar of one drayman who has
been furnished a pistol to protect
himself whilst out delivering goods
after night. It will bo a blessed
good thing if it results in keeping
grand rascals at home after nightfall
but it is certainly strange how easily
these people are duped. .

they rang the bell themselves.

For years past the medical world

tute something simple and pleasant.
We call attention to the advertise
ment to-day of “Syrup of Figs” a most
delightful laxative made of figs, and
for sale by Messrs. Lloyd & Adams.
Although a new medicine, it has got
ten a big run already.

With regard to the alleged snub
that Mrs. Cleveland gave Mrs. Grant,
inquiry at the Whitb House develops
the fact that Mrs. Grant did not call
there; that Mrs. Cleveland did not
meet her during her stay in Wash
ington, and, therefore, there could
have been no snub. This informa
tion was obtained by the Baltimore
Sun’s correspondent. What is the
New York Tribune going to do about
it ? Is it going to let its correspond
ent slander Mrs. Cleveland, or will
it have the manliness to correct the
absurd story ?—Ex.
A negro in Kansas City Is under
arrest for stealing. He was hungry,
and thought his neighbor had no
right to withhold bread from him.
If he had been contented with the
bread, all might have been well. But
he was not; he walked off with the
red hot stove in which the bread was
being cooked. His averice got him
into trouble. Some people never
know when they have enough.
