Highly important intelligence has just been
received at Fort Leavenworth, by express
from Fort L.innnic, with advices of “October
22d, Lieut. Col. Cooke’s command of 2d
dragoons were four-miles this side, and had 1
encountered a snow storm five days previous-!
ly. Col. Albert B. Johnston was last heard j
from two hundred and thirty .milos jbeyond 1
Fort Laramie, and snow, was seven inches
deep one hundred miloh this side of where
the express left him. Owing to the slim sup
ply of corn, and entire absence of grass, the j
teams of the entire command and the horses j
of the 2d Dragoons were failing rapidly. j
News had reached Laramie that the Mor j
mons had burnt three government trains (sev
enty-five wagons) near Green river, ninety
miles behind Col. Alexander’s command,

ITED IN WASHINGTON CITY.
The City Councils ot Washington, I), (’.,
have passed the foil awing, important ordi
nance :
Be it enacted, &Cr,-fhat it shall not hereaf
ter be lawful for aiiy person or.-pyrsons to
carry or have about their persons any deadly
or dangerous weapons, such as dagger-,- prs
tol, bovvieknife, dirk-knife or dirk, colt, slung
shot or brass or other iuctal knuckles, within
the city bf Washington ; and any .person- 1 r
persons who shall bos duly,* convicted of so
‘carryitig*or liaving-oa-their --pcrtKma atty-mfoii
weapon shall forfeit or pay upon such coivvic-,
tion not less than twenty dollars nor more
than fifty dollars ; which fines shall be pros
ecuted and recovered in the same manner ns
other penalties and forfeitures accruing to
the city are sued for and recovered ; provid
ed that the police officers,., the members of
the auxiliary'guard and the military, when
on duty, shall he exempt from such penalties
and forfeitures. ~
The National Intelligencer truly remarks :

TERRIBLE MASSACRE.
The Alta Onliforoia (Extra)- of October
1 11th contains the following account of tnassa- j
ere of tior entire train of Emigrants, consist- i

Mr. J. NV.’ Ohiistain furnishes the follow- I
ing particulars in a letter dated Ban .Berna \
dono, Oct, 4th, 1857.’ He says :
