(kx MTTtft CAROLINA COOMB AOAIN RKO-
I£H TO.
The Cherferton Mcroorg of Monday says:
“One hundred and twelve students liav6
{••t been auspended from this institution, and
there ere about eighty-six left behind. Thir
ty-five Seniors, three Juniors, seventy Soph
omores, and three Freshmen have been
sent off, the greater part until next October.
Tina is the second time within twelve months
that this time-honored College, capable of
doing so much good, has, under different
Presidents, been placed in this sorry condi
tion. It is time that the people of the State
investigate the matter, and that the .weight
at a calm and enlightened public opinion be
brought to bear in finding the precise cause
of these ceaseless troubles, and providing a
full and adequate remedy for the evil.
“Where, then’lies the fault, sud who of
the various parties concerned are to blame 1
Are the youth of Carolina so perverse and
uhnily-*-ao wanting in all the elements of
loyalty and subordination to superior authori
ty, that they are utterly ungovernable, and
will take no education 1 Is this the radical
defect of our people that has poduced, under
every successive President for the last thirty
years one and the same story of trouble and
rebellion? We think not.”
• LATEB FROM FLORIDA.
Billy Bowlegs came into Fort Mead, the
11th inat., and after a talk agreed to leave,
with all the Indians under his control, for tbe
Far West. He left the fort for the purpose
•f collecting his people and making arrang
tnents for a speedy departure.
This increases the confidence which for
some time lias been growing among the Flo
ridians, that the end of their Indian difficul
ties is at hand.
The vegetation of Eastern Florida is rap
idly gaiuing the strength and character of
aurnmer. Green corn is nearly large enough
for use. The country never exhibited in
greater profusion its floral wealth.
• PRICE OF GUANO.
“We learn” says the Alexandria Gazette,
“ that owing to a reduction made by agents
of the Peruvian government in the price of
guano, the dealers in this city are able to sell
It at $55 per ton, being $5 less than it has
been selling at heretofore. Tliiaiptelligence
will lie gratifying to farmers who use this
fertilizer.”’
Savannah, April 3 —Cotton.—There has
been a moderate demand for cotton in our
market to-day, particularly fine grades.which
allows an advance of on previous prices.—
The inferior grades are neglected, and prices
depressed. The sales for the day, 756 bales,
