Political Free-Dealer’s Reply,
In reply to the Gazette 1 am sorry
to find that it Ims no real issue to
make, but brakes by ridicu
lous epithets. Ye do not think that
we misreprcsetiTed the Gazette as it
stated that Dr. Felton’s hearers were
too attentive, as the Dr. liked cheers.
That was the ground of our charge,
but we find, generally Speaking, that
the ring democracy of the piesent day
only hope to carry its points by bull
dozing, and their success depends
eYitiiely on some side Issues, for surely
they have departed from the faith of
line democracy of 1850, and are to-day
preachii g the democratic gospel ac
cording to the latter saints, giving
heed Vo ltiuticing caucuses, rings and
doctrines of office hunters, who mani
fest great interest for the party, rally
ing the people like voting cattle, cry
ing out, vote for the nominee to save
the party. Thus blinding the eyes of
the people as to theii vital interest and
lioTding them 1n the dark a; to the
real issues of the country that is now
before them. The fing democracy of
to-day is far away from the principles
of democracy femhihed by Jefferson
and others. It is rings now for the
benefit of the few'against the many.
They want to reserve the name of de
moclacy to take airily their reproach
of 1860, These are facts for it is sail
“In lliat day seven women shall lay
hold on the skirts of one man, saying:
Let us he called by Illy Imiiui to take
away our repruach.” So these only
claim theHau*e of democracy to lead
the people. NT io is l)r. Felton hut
nn independent democrat of the old
school? No pile Can deny it. Dr. Fel
ton ha?> been actuated by that princi
ple. Dr. Felton has use 1 his influence
and ability ably and manly for the
general interest of the people of Geor
gia. Gan any one deny that and he
guiltless. What is the trouble. Why
Dr. Felton has always legislated for
the general interest id the masses and
not so much for rings, monopolies,
This is the reason why tho ringsters
are so hitter against linn. They don’t
pretend to borne up find show any
thing he lias done in Cougtbflit that
was wlong; no not one ioto of it.
What then, oh Dr. Felton is an inde
pendent democrat, that’s all, and if we
countenance L'r. Felton and imlepend
fent democrats, iliat does ntray with
onr rings if fid era ft by which we get
bur gain. What are the history ot
the fathers of these lingsters. Win.
L. Yaney and Underwood, of Georgia,
in 1860 after they had post the ordin-
ancc ol dissolution, Underwood with a
deep sigh ofre'iel exclaimed, “I iiaVe
he’ll trying to brake up this d—ni old
government years. ’* . Now
if .such be (lie history of ringsters in
the pest What could we expert in the
liithre, for i* th*i fathers of ringsters
Jed the nation to destruction and
bic'ol-shej how much mote their
children. This no gentleman can de
ny. For if the fathers have eaten
hour grapes the childrens teeth arc on
fedge. l’yurirn Fuee dealer.
[ We must acknowledge that we fed
fcoriJT far “Political Free dealer* fot
several reasons. Due reason is that
liis memory were limited so as to lead
him to misquote Dr Felton’s speech
fit this place a few weeks ago, or n
other wot da he is not acting according
to the Doctor’s instructions, hdu.ul i
the Doctor ever peichxtico lead Free
ilealer’s reply he will very modi o -
M i-ve thut lie thumped the wrong
pompkin, and that where ignoiance is
bliss it is folly for him tube wise.
And another is that he makes his re
ply to the democratic party of 1860
instead of to our personal attack. W e
agreed to give hitti a reply but did not
known that he was going to take ad
vantage or us and Wiit6 up the past
history of the democratic party accord
ing to a sore headed greenhaclcers
views.
If “Political Free-dcaFr” wish to
let his light so shine that Felton may
see his works, we ndvise him to stump
the district in order that lie may bray
loud and long to his would-be hearers.
As we last week we do not
desire to enter any political discussion
and do not intend too, besides the Ga
zette is not run for sole purpose of
giving such poisons as Free-dealer an
opportunity to ckpoah their dead lan
guage. Hereafter when Political
Free-dealer wishes to hnCwer anything
that appears in this papei, we liopt he
will he kind enough to answer us per
sonally in his own language. We are
responsible for everything that appears
in this paper, and not our forefathers, j
lToijNlyj|so Vallfy.
