SOCIAL GOSSIP
Mrs. Charles H. Phlnlzy and the
young women who have been In
charge of Pine Heights Tea Shop,
arc receiving the most enthusiastic
compliments on the magnificent
success of the barbecue they put
on st Carmichael's Friday and
there has been notning ol a similar
nature given In years in Augusta
that has been a more tremendous
success. The general consensus ot
opinion Is that never has there
been anything given, even at Car
michael’s, that has surpassed it
in point of enjoyment. While there
was no sun the ride out was not
too cool for enjoyment and by one
thirty Jhe grounds were parked
with automobiles and limousines,
almost every machine that is win
tering in Augusta being out and
the output from the hotels most
gratifying. Dinner was served at
long tables in the enclosed pavil
llons The menu was a splendid
one, the meat cooked to a nicety,
the coffee hot and strong and the
desert course delightful. About
two hundred guests wer served and
from a financial standpoint also,
the ’cue was all that could be wish
ed or expected. There were any
number oT small parties dining to
gether and several large ones,
among the latter one o fthirty or
more entertained by Mrs. Henry K.
Crowell and one o fthirty entertain
ed by Mrs. Henry Tinker. The
management wish to extend their
most appreciative thanks to Car
michael's Club for the free use ot
the club, to How & McGowan for
the free printing of the barbecue
tickets, to Mr. Harry Barnes, whose
efficient services made the ’cue
possible, and to Mrs. I.ouis C Mur
dock of New York, who is at I.e
Bon Air. for her graciousness in as
sisting Mrs. Charles Phinizv in dis
posing of so many of the tickets
As is rather generally known the
money made will go to the building

The !'*inounced engagement to
day of Miss Mary Danforth and Mr.
John S. Davidson, while It has been
expected and looked forward to for
mouths, will still come in the nature
of a pleasant surprise to many.
Miss Danforth is the eldest daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Percy, Dan
forth, and Is one of the prettiest
young girls in Augusta, with a pic
turesque type of beauty, slender
with dark hair niid the lovely ex
pressive eyes which she uses very
cleverly. Miss Danforth is always
prettily gowned in the latest styles
which site wears with the most
charming results. Mr. Davidson is
the second son of the late Albert
Davidson and Mrs. Davidson, and Is
one of the well-known and best lik
ed young business men in the city.
The marriage will be an early morn
ing affair at St. Paul’s and the
young couple will make their home
with Mr. and Mrs. Davidson's

Apropos of the visit of Mr. and
Mrs. John Hays Hammond to the
handon Thomases when they come
to the unveiling of the Butt Memo
rial Bridge in April, the following
ttle true story is told of their trip
over from Europe last week. They
came over on the Imperator which
docked on Thursdav last. 'l'uerc
was a bad storm during the trip,
so bad that lour of the life boats
were lost and the wings of the eagle
at the mast were stripped from him.
During the height of the storm Mrs.
Alva Willing Astor was cneertain
ing with a banquet In the Ritz-Oarl
ton in honor of the John Hays Ham
monds. At the same time there
was a baby born in the steerage.
Someone apprised the guests 01 it
and Mrs. Hammond with big heart-
ness, Constipation, Griping, etc. Your
• deal and only trouble is that which
you eat does not digest, but quickly
ferments and sours, producing almost
any unhealthy condition.
A case of Pape's Diapepsin will
cost fifty cents at any pharmacy here,
and will convince any stomach suf
ferer in five minutes that Fermenta
tion and Sour Stomaih is causing the
misery of Indigestion.
Not matter if you call your trouble
Catarrh of the Stomach, Nervousness
or Gastritis, or by any other name—
always remember that relief is wait
ing at any drug store the mo you
decide to begin its use.
Pape’s Diapepsin will regulate any
out-of-door Stomach within five min
utes, and digest promptly, without
any fuss or discomfort, all of any
kind of food you eat.
