In each of the twenty-ono militia
districts of Washington county Mr.
Fherrurd haa obtained a temporary
loan from aonie public-spirited farm
er of an acre or two of good farm
land over which he will have auper
vlalon during the coming aeaaon.
On these Here*, the farmer* will
plant cotton or corn as the case may
tie. adopting Mr. Hherrarri's sugges
tions as to the selection of seed, use
of fertilizer, etc., and working under
tils direction until the crop la ma
tured.

some knowledge will be gained in the

Corn Clubs.
In addition to this work Mr. Sher

organizing corn clubs and esnnlng
clubs among the pupils. During tho
year which he Is to stay here. Mr.
Hherrard expects to accomplish a great
deal toward the betterment of tho
farming Intareata of this section.
Farmers' Unions Consolidate.
Up until recently the farmers'
unions of Washington enunty have
consisted of a number of small clubs
scattered around about the county,
and holding meetings in school house*
and private residences. I.ately. how
ever. they have consolidated Into 01*
club, the Farmers' Union of Washing
ton county, and there la no doubt that
this la u better arrangement. At
present their meetings are held In the
court house at Fandersvllle, but there

Club, formerly a private library, now
belongs to the city of Hundersvtlle,
and has been ehanged to a public li

the only building which Hherman
