The change In nrhedule, an proponed
by tha Georgia road, taken flff the two
accommodation tralnn now running
between Atlanta and Covington and
Atlanta and Llthonla, which ara un
profitable, and put a on two new faat
I tralnn between Augunta and Atlanta,
i tn giving thin extra needed service,
the present nehedulea will have to be
changed and changed for the better.
Thin new service. If allowed by the
railroad commission, will, first of all,
give Augunta n five-hour nchedule to
Atlanta, In comparison to a service
Hint In now nix hours and five min
utes. In addition to thin, It would
put Augunta on it trunk line making
direct • service with Wilmington,
Charleston and other Carolina polnta
unit •'hli ago and other western cities,
and would, it In said, eventually mean
that thin city would he one of the
principal stops on a trunk llnu be
tween New York and New Orleans.
The big feature of ttie new plan In
the schedule that wilt give Augusta
a train, No. Ik, leaving here at noon,
dally, making only three or four stops,
with the five-hour service to Atlanta.
Another train. No. 2», would leave At
lanta ut noon, dally, for Augusta, run
ning on a similar schedule.
It the new schedule Is granted the
Georgia the Atlantic Coast Une and
the Houthern Hallway, It Is under
stood, will operate new trains Into
Augusta from Florence and Charles
ton respectively. These trains In
connection wjth the new trains on the
Georgia will give the people of the
Carolines* a much better service
through this section. And all of them
will pass through Augusta.
Some aide arguments will doubtless
be made before the commission by the
three Augusta representatives, par
ticularly Capt. J Hire Smith, who Is
an eloquent speaker. He Is a man of
splendid huslncss acumen and a pa
triotic Augustan.
The Georgia's new schedule plan
meets with general favor among Hi
, business interests of Augusta, os was
evidenced some two weeks ago, when
I several of the most prominent cttl
