Everything in Readiness For the
Motorcycle Races; Will be Held
Tomorrow at Four P. M.
Everything is in readiness for the
motorcycle races to be held for the
benefit of the Lake Side Club tomor
row evening, and at 4 p. ni., sharp,
the riders will be sent across the tape
for the first race of five miles.
At present five riders have been
signed to enter; however at least two
more entries are expected from out
of the city by tomorrow morning,
these entries being from Savannah.
There will be staged three races of
five miles each and $75 in cash
money has been ottered as the prizes.
A “bloody” race may be expected as
every rider is out for himself.
One-Mile Time Trials.
Besides the above there will be one
mile time trials and a very handsome
silver loving cup is offered to the
rider turning the fastest mile. The
riders all have their special racing
machines tuned to the very highest
pitch and judging from the practice
trials there is absolutely no doubt
that a new state record will be hung
up for a mile on a two-lap track.
Mr. Marion Buford will ride his
special racing machine in these trials
and he expects to lower his own prev
ious record in this race. No doubt
he will have a keen rival in Mr.
Crawford Garard of Washington, Ga.
Late Entries.
Among the other late entries are
Messrs. Johnny O’Connor, Hal Bee
man and “Butch” Easterling. These
riders are well known for their dar
ing skill, they having participated in
the last meet here and made a re
markable showing.
Two riders are expected to motor
up tomorrow from Savannah and will
bring their fast racer along with
them. In the previous races the Au
gusta boys have succeeded in down
ing the Savannah boys, however
these two riders expect to make a
good showing.

The Third International Con

Washington. —What constitutes the

Tlie chili! welfare congress is under
the auspices of the National Congress of

having been founded in this city In
18!)7 by Mrs. I'heobe Ilearst and Mrs.
Theodore Barney.
Exery Phase.
Every phase of child .ifo will be tak
en up In the discussions by Congress,
and experts in various linos of child ed
ucation and culture will speak to the
assembled mothers.
The relation of the state, church and
school to the child will be fully taken
up. but the ma n parts oi the discussions
will center oon home life, which, in the
opinion of tlie congreps is the most
important phase of the child life.
In the talks and discussions the con
gress will go hack to the foundation of
the home, heredity and training of the
father and mother. A comprehensive
survey of things to be considered by a
couple contemplating marriage will be
given.
Personal hygiene, domestic sanlta
tatlon, domestic economy, the chemistry
of foods, adjustment of expenses to In
come and the relation of the home to
the community, have prominent plucoa
on the program, as the congress consid
ers them essentols in the study of chi d
environment.
Wider Dissemination.
The congress is advocating the 'wider
dissemination of knowledge relating to
the agencies, such as boards of health,
churches and schools.
The first clause In the declaration of
principles of the congress states that
‘“The home Is the basis of society and no
civic, social or physical betterment can
be reached except through intelligent,
purposeful effort to raise the standard
of home life, of marriage and Its du
ties. of fatherliod and motherhood, and
