IS MOTOR CAR
A "HOODOO?"
The Accidents That Have Oc
curred to Berlin's Royal Fam
ily Leads One to Believe So.
Berlin.—The accident to the Prince**
FYedrlka of Hanover? the *l*ter of the
Duke of Cumberland, near Blarrlt*, the
other day In a rem nder of the fateful
part that the motor ear haa played In
the Guelph family In th« ccfOrae of the
la hi few year*.
Prince William of Cumberland, the
*lder brother of the present Duke of
Iffunawlck. won killed In an accident to
the ear which tie whh driving near Mer
lin In May, 1912. The KalHer sent »n
Impressive message of sympathy to the
prince's father, and the latter was an
affected by this and by other courtesies
shown In connection with the burial that
he quite unexpeetdoly sent his younger
son, Prime Krnest August, to express
bis gratitude In person at the royal pal
ace at Potsdam.
First Meeting.
This was the first meeting of a Guelph
with a Hoheitzollern, since Hanover,
Hhe Guelph state) was anneexd to
Prussia In IH6. It was also the occa
sion of a short meeting between the
Prince and the Kaiser’s only daughter,
Princess Victoria Ixaiise, which was the
first scene In their romantic match, and
the first step towards the recolclUaton
of the two fainlles.
The betrothal was at Karlsruhe last
» prime. The festivltels were the occa
lon of another motor accident In which
[ the car driven by the Prince's future
brother-in-law, Prince Adalbert of Prus
sia run over a boy In the streets of
Karlsruhe. In the course of the week of
wedding festivities in Berlin, on the oc
casion of the wedding there were s**v
tra.l other motor accidents in which
royalty was invouved, chief amoug them,
one in which the Duke of Cumberland's
car was concerned. This accident was
the cause of the decision of the Duke
of Brunswick at the eleventh hour to
, cJiange one of the presents offered by
; King George an Knglish-made touting
! car In favor of something less poten
tially dangerous.
It has been said that giever since has
cither father or son been scon In a motor
car.
PLANTING HAIR
111 ONE'S HEAD
Berlin.—The medical profession
hero Is taking a deep Interest In a
method of Hewing hairs in the human
sealp in cues of partial or total
baldness, which has been successful
ly used In several instances bv Dr.
S/.ekoly at the Hospital of Saint
Stephana tit Kudu pest
The number of hairs '"planted” In
the head of a patient has been as
many as 60,000. One hundred Imirs
me drawn through the puncture in
the acalp to every square centimeter,
and as both ends are left free the
number Is thus 200 or over 1,000 to
each stpiHro Inch. Very fine gold
wires are used, one five hundredth of
an Inch in diameter and Tine long
hairs from a woman’s head are at
tached at the middle to these The
gold loop or knot iiclh as an "anchor
and after sterilization Is Introduce!
to the subcutaneous tissue, where It
!■ slightly twisted, and hold* the half
permanently In position It fc slated
that 800 hairs can he thus Introduced
into the scalp within three quarters
of an hour.
Special Instrument.
Dr Siekely hits designed a special
Instrument for introducing and fixing
the gold wires Tin latter are so
Ight and so fine that the total
amount of gold in the acalp after
"planting" 60,000 hairs Is only one
grume The hair is stated to appear
! erfectly natural, and a capsule of
tissue appears to form around each
gold wire knot. The Inf lamina lion
resulting from the treatment entirely
disappears in from 10 to 12 days, and
in uo case, so far, has any intense
Inflammation or suppuration result
id. Tim hair can be washed, brushed
and treated with oil In the ordinary
way. and one of the earliest patients
so treated, a lady, has retained her
hair Intact with the original luatre
and flexibility for over seven years.
There are cynics here who regard
the discovery as a case of more
drudgery for oppressed wives. - Now,
at nights, Instead of finishing the
table-center for the chureh-baaaer, it
will be her wifely duty to bring out
the sewing mnchlne and decorate the
old man in something useful In her
ring-bone stitching
