HIGHER VISIOI
Theme of Moderator’s Sermon
Before tho Southern Presby
terian Assembly Today.
Kansas City, Mo.—Declaring that
“delegations of discontented people will
keep on coming to tho churches to dis
turb worship until after a while they
will he arrested hy tho message they
hear instead of hv the police,“ Kev. J.
S. Lyons of Louisville, Ky., in the mod
erator's sermon before the Pvesbvterlun
general assembh here today made a
strong plea for higher vision. ' lie spoke
from the text "Where there is no vlHtnn
the people perish.” “If the church."
he said, “is equal lo the opportunity of
today, many who make malicious as
saults upon it will find themselves
breaking Into the kingdom of Heaven."
Dr. Lyons sold that the church can
well afford to Invest every energy In a
mighty campaign for an effective evan
gelistic forward movement.
"What Is the Vision?”
“What Is the vision today?” he said.
“As we turn to the world today we see
the same dark shadows which appeared
In all the prophetic visions of the past.
Wo behold contending forces In all the
varied forms of economic, social and po
litical foment and strife. Moreover we
see the world growing more and more
weary of its problem, with many hope
ful evidences that It ts coming to real
ize that the problem requires for Its so
lution more than the elements of educa
tion and culture and moral Influence.
Philosophers, statesmen, scientific com
missions. social betterment enterprises
are pathetically trying to unravel the
mystery of human misery and sin."
With New Willingness.
The church, ho declared, has long prn
rhilmed (hat It has the remedy for ah
the ills of life and the world is turning
to the church" with a “new willigneas
to know what the remedy Is.”
"Men and brethren." Hr. Lyons said,
“hear with me while I voice tho con
viction:
"That the Christians of tho Apostolic
Age, who swept through the world with
the blood of Plirlst and the fire of the
Holy Ghost had tin experience and an
equipment which Is sorely lacking In the
church today:
The Early Church.
“That an ever Increasing multitude of
our membership Is studying anew the
charter of the Holy Scriptures with tho
purpose of getting hack to Ihe simplic
ity and power of tho early church;
“Thnt Ihctr hearts are stirring and
horning within them, so that tliov haste
the coming again of the days of the Ron
of Man upon earth.”
SPORTLETS

How did that one-hand catch of a

"Well, 1 should smile!”
The Macon Tigers won th »lr game
yesterday as well us the Combacks
und the result is that the two teams
tire still tied up for that second ploeo
at the bottom of the percentage
column. This state of aflulrs can’t
continue now as either one of them
will have to lose. The problem Is
now, which is going to use the other
as the stepping stone towards that
coveted spot, which is generally term
ed “who's who?”
The local aggregation of hall play
ers have now positively eliminated
tiie Foxes from the race. Will they
do the same in regards to the
Tigers ?
A few days ago a story was prlnV
ed in The Columbus Inquirer Htiti in
regard to the reason that the Corn
backs were almost at the bottorp of
Hie percentage column. The Herald
in response to this hit of reasoning
hy our benighted neighbor usked for
the reason why the Foxes were at
the bottom. This “wise Informer”
lias evidently gone to sleep as he po
litely Ignored the request. Thanks,
anyway, for that hit of reasoning,
M lster.
The prediction, hy The Herald,
that the Combacks would cop the
game of yesterday afternoon, as well
us the game of the day before, came
to be a fact. No more predictions
will he offered In the future uh the
Sporting Kdltor Is swamped with
letters requesting him for “Inside In
formation.” This won't do, as he
might slip up!
Clark Is due a great deal of credit
for the excellent manner in which ho
holds down that second sack, lie's
here, there and everywhere, all at
one. He Is also around tiere with
his slab work.
‘‘Babe's” got the Charlie Horse,
Burgess' leg is twisted, Berger has a

been slammed pretty hard. Yet the
game goes merrily on and we're win
ning, too.
