FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($750.-
000) OF BONDS FOR THE PURPOSE
OK PROTECTION AGAINST FEOOD.
The City Council of Augusta hereby or
dains:—
Section 1-—That on the flret day of

March 2nd, 1914. and approved March
Urd. 1914, entitled “An ordinance to pro
vide for the registration of voters for
an election or elections to he held to de
termine upon the Issunnre of bonds and
for other purpoaes," and under t ex
isting laws for election for Mayor and
Mc«nnera of Council, except as modified
t»y this ordinance, to determine upon
the Issuance of bonds provided for in
this ordinance. Notice of such election
shall be published in The Augusta Her
ald, the newspaper In which the Sheriff’s
advertisements for the County R chmond
are published, for thirty days next, pre-

qualified voters of Augusta that on the
first day of June, 19i4, an election wl 1

er the bonds provided for by this ordi
nance shall he Issued. Such notice shall
specify what amount of bonds are to be
Issued, for what purpose, what Interest
they are to bear, how much principal
and interest to he paid annually and
when to he fully pa d off. A 1 persons
voting at such election in favor of the
issuance of such bonds shall have writ
ten or printed on their ballots the words
“For bonds for the purpose of protection
aranst floods’* and a'l persons opposed
to the Issuance of such bonds shall have
written or printed on their ballots the
words "Against bonds for the purpose of
protection against floods.”
Pectlon 2 Rhoulo the issuance of such
bonds be assented to by two-thirds of
the qualified voters of Augusta arid
should such amount of bonds be ascer
tained to be within the limit of bonds
authorized to he issued, under the Con
stitutional Amendment as hereinafter
fully set forth there shall be authorized
to he Issued and sold by The < ity Coun
cil of Augusta under the provisions of
th s ordinance, Seven Hundred and Fifty
Thousand Dollars ($750,000) prlnclptl
amount of bonds, the proceeds of which
shall he used for the purpose of pro
tection against floods. Such bonds
shall he known as “City of Augusta
Flood Protection Bonds of 1914,’’ shall he
of the denomination of One Thousand
Dollars ($.1000) #ach, shall hear date the
first day of July, nineteen hundred and
fourteen (1914), shall be payable as to
the principal amount thirty years after
date, shall bear interest at the rate of
four and one-half per centum (4% per
cent.) per annum, payable semi-annual
ly on the first days of January and of
July of each year, such Interest to be
represented by coupons attached to said
bonds, each coupon being for the sum of
Twenty-two and 50-100 Dollars ($22.50)).

countersigned by the Clerk of Council,

hear the lithographed or engraved sig
nature of the present Clerk of Council.

also payable at the American Exchange
National Rank. New York City. Such
bonds shall before Issuance be validated
as provided bg law.
Sec. H—Such bonds to be registered In
accrrrdnnce with provisions of Ordinance
adopted June 23rd, 1913, and approved
June 24th, J 913.
Section 4---These bonda are intended to
he issued under and by virtue of the au
thority contained in the Amendment to
paragraph one of section seven of nrtlcla
seven of the Constitution of the State
of Georgia, the Act of the General As
setnbly providing for which was ap
proved August 15. 1909. as appears In
the published laws of 19t*9 on pages 77
to 80 Inclusive, and which was proclaim
ed by the Governor of the JState of Geor
gia on the 20th day of October, 1910,
to have been adopted by the people of
the State, and which amendment reads

curred by any county, municipal cor
poration or political t! vision of this
State, except ns in this Constitution pro
vided for, shall not exceed seven per
centum of the assessed value of all the
taxable property therein, and no such
county, municipality or division shall
Incur any new debt, except for a tem
porary loan or mans to supply casual
deficiencies of revenue, not to exceed
one-fifth of one per centum of the as
sessed value of taxable property therein,
without the assent of two-thirds of the
qualified Voters thereof at an election
for that purpose, to be held as may he
I described by law; but any city, the debt
of which does not exceed seven per cen
tum of the assessed value of the taxable
property at the time of the adoption of
this Constitution, may be authorized by
law to Increase, at any time, ttie amount
of sa d debt, three per centum upon
such assessed valuation; except that The
City Council of Augusta, from time to
time, as necessary, for the purpose of
protection ngnlnst floods, may incur a
bonded Indebtedness upon Its power pro
ducing canal and municipal waterworks,
in addtlon to the debts hereinbefore In
this paragraph allowed to be Incurred,
to an amount in the aggregate not ex
ceeding fifty per centum of the com
bined value of such properties, the valu

BON AIR HOTEL COMPANY.
Notice is hereby given to the holders
and owners of Forty-first mortgage
bonds of the Ron Air Hotel Company,
dated June 1, 1901, each for the princi
pal sum of SI,OOO and .numbered con
secutively from 1 to 40 inclusive, that
said Company will take up, pay off and
redeem said Bonds named above by the
payment of principal and accrued Inter
est at The National Exchange Bank of
Augusta. Georgia, on the next semi-an
nual interest period, to-wlt, June 1, 1914,
upon the presentation of sa’d Bonds.
’l'hls notice Is given in pursuance of the
right, privilege nnd option reserved to
the Ron Air Hotel Company in a Trust
Deed securing said Ronds. The hold
ers of said Bonds are hereby requested
to present the same for payment as
stated shove, as upon failure to present
said Ronds for redemption, at the time
