SPEER REPORT
IS NOW READY
In Printer’s Hand and Will Be
Placed Before Judiciary Com
mittee Next Week.
Washington, D. C.—The reports
and recommendations of Congressman
Webb, Fltz Henry and Volatead, with
reference to the charges against Judge
Emory Bper, are ready, and may be
sent to the government printing office
tonight. Chairman Webb stated to- ;
day that he hoped the case would be l
presented to the judiciary committee ,
some time next week. The sub-com- ;
mittee received today a supplemental
brief from Judge Hpcr, bearing tes- I
timony as to his high character.
"It would be highly improper for me 1
to discus the nature of the report," j
said Mr. Webb. "Pending its submis- |
sion to the judiciary committee I will
say nothing with reference to the
case.”
No Conference.
Mr. Volstead stated that he had not j
been in conference with either
Messrs Webb or Fltzhenry and had no
Idea what they would recommend.
"1 have been invited to no confer
ence with Messrs. Webb and Fitz
benry, and of course am unfamiliar
with their views as regards the evi- ,
dence taken in Georgia," said Mr.
Volsl .id. "I am ready to make a re- !
port, but it is my opinion that the
Judiciary committee will not be ready
to take up the Speer case for ten
days or two weeks. We are engaged
right now on trust agitation and I
believe this will hold the attention of :
the members of the Judiciary commit- j
tee to the exclusion of everything else
fror the immediate future.”
From the fact that Mr. Volstead, the ]
Republican member, has held no con- j
ference with Messrs. Webb and Fltz- I
henry, the Democrats, it is assumed
that two reports will be submitted to
the judiciary committee. The fact is
regarded as corroborative of the im
pression that Volstead will recommend
exoneration and that Webb and Fltz
henry will not be so lenient.
Disagreement?
It Is the belief here that a disagree
ment In the sub-committee, such as Is
suspected, may result in delaying final
action in the Speer case indefinitely.
The judiciary committee, it Is stated,
In the event of disagreement, would
be disposed to read the record In the j
case very carefully before acting on
tile reports and making a recommen- i
dation to the house. The record is j
voluminous, and time would he re
quired for the committee to read and j
digest all the, evidence.
Another possibility. In the event of
disagreement 111 the sub-committee, is
that the judiciary committee may de
cide along party lines in its recommen
dations to the house, and that tne
house itself would divide along similar
lines.

MEET TUESDAY NIGHT i
Will Be First Gathering of
Augusta Nobles Since Trip to .
Atlanta.
Since the grqpt pilgrimage to At
lanta, the Nobility of Augusta has not
been called together, but they are go-,
ing to meet Tuesday evening in the
parlors of the Masonic Temple at
eight-thirty.
No greater gathering of '‘Swiners,”
as they have been named by a coming
Noble, was ever held than the one in
Atlanta. Those who dhl not go, are
still tilled with regret. The Augusta j
Boys were there "with the goods" and 1
ns their "Mascotts,” the Banner Boys, I
marched in the great evening parade,
across the clt.y there was the con- j
stant applaud of "Hurrah for Augusta." |
The Illustrious Sheik had to do the
"Marathon Act" when the order was
given to "Double-quick" for about one
mile. However, he says he didn't mind
it, for It put him in good "Running j
trim” for a race after he returned i
home.
There Is going to be a good time
Tuesday evening, and all Nobles are
Ttsiuesleil to be present, especially those I
who went up to Atlanta, as there will ;
he reports, recounts of experiences, I
etc., and a good time generally. Added
to this that prince of good fellow*.!
"Pop Cumming” is to set the club up I
to a genuine Habana Smoker.
ELECTRIC FANS IN USE
AT ST. JAMES CHURCH
Saint James Methodist Church of
this city enjoys the distinction of being;
one of the very few churches in the
United States that are electrically
cooled. In fact services in Saint Janies
to the summer are really more enjoy
able than if held out of doors, for. In
addition to the cooling breezes front
the fans, the seating; is much more
comfortable than could be provided
out of doors. Saint James is provided
with a nice large lawn adjacent to the
church, and, If so desired, services
could be held out of doors.
Pr Dillard, who has ben away con
ducting a revival service for Rev. L.
M. Twiggs at Harlem, has returned
to his own church, after holding a good
meeting at Harlem. Dr. Dillard de
sires to see all of his members out next
Sunday, both morning and evening.
Non-members always receive a cordial
welcome at Saint James. Subject for
