Silver Bars.
$50,000 worth of silver bars —ali but
six that were on board —recovered
from the Skyro, wrecked'in 323 fa
thoms of water off Cape Finisterre.
"In the ease of Alpnonso XII, the
difficulties were very great’,’ Mr.
Davis said, ’’and our diver, Alexander
Lambert, had to use dynamite to re
move innumerable obstructions be
fore he could get to the magazine in
which the treasure was stored.
“Dynamite had also to be used in
the operations for salving the silver
bars of the Skyro, and when the work
was finished, the, vessel was just a
heap of scrap iron."
The Empress of Ireland is said to
be lying or. her side in seventeen
fathoms —102 feet of water.
Abnormal Pressure.
“At this depth,’’ Mr. Davis said,
“a man cannot remain sa.ely for a
longer time than thirty or forty min
utes. He would have to allow him
self, moreover, about half nn hour
to get on the surface, the ascent from
the depth a painfully slow business.
"When a mail works at these sub
marine depths he is subject to an
abnormal pressure which is increased
bv 4 1-2 pounds for every ten feet he
goes down. At work beneath fath
oms of water his blood and tissues
become saturated with nitrogen.
“For this reason he has to be most
careful in ascending to the surface,
lor otherwise a sort of effervescence
would be set up in the blood vessels
and cause paralysis.
'There is no difficulty in geting
divers for salvage operations. Most
of our men are ex-British navy
divers, who are without doubt the
most scientifically trained in the
world.
“For his work in salving the pese
tas from the wreck of the Alphonso
XII Alexander Lambert received 5
ler cent of the treasure recovered,
$17,500. in addition to bis pay of $250
a month.

Red Blotchy Skin
Easily Remedied
Bathe Your Blood with a Cooling,
Purifying Remedy
One of the Daily Perils
When your blood Is overheated the con
gestion or Inflammation makes straight
for the skin. Then Is the time you need
that famous blood purifier 8. S. S. The
skin is a modified form of mucous mem
brane and It Is In these membranes that
Impurities In the blood are prepared for
expulsion. S. S. S. has a most remark
able action In assisting the membranes
to eliminate those secretions which are
the result of inflammation whether they
take the form of catarrh or red patches
on the skin. Its cooling, purifying effect
is almost Immediate since In three min
utes after entering the blood It traverses
the entire circulation. It so acts upon
the cellular tissues In the skin that each
cell rejects any Invading germ and se
lects only Its own essential nutriment
from the blood.
These facts are brought out In a strik
ingly Illustrated book “What the Mirror
Tells” which Is mailed free by the Swift
Specific Co., 108 Swift Rulldlng, Atlanta,
Ga. Get a bottle of S. S. S. today of any

and disappointing substitutes.
IF SKIN ITCHES
AND BREAKS OUT
APPW SULPHUR
Get ounce of bold-sulphur
cream and heal Eczema
eruptions right up.
For years, common bold-sulphur has
occupied a secure position In the
treatment of cutaneous affections, by
reason of its parasite-destroying prop
erty. It is not only parasiticidal. hut
also anti-pruritic, antiseptic and re
markably healing in irritable and in
flammatory conditions of the skin.
The moment you apply it to an itch
ing or broken out skin the itching
stops and the healing begins, sa>s a
noted dermatologist. Just common
hold-sulphur made into a thick cream
effects such prompt and remarkable
results, even in aggravated Eczema
that it is a never-ending source of
amazement to physicians.
While not always establishing a per
manent cure it never fails tn subdue
the angry itching and 1 itation and
heal the Eczema right up and it is
often years later before any eruption
again appears on the skin.
Any good pharmacist will supply
an ounce of bold-sulphur cream which
should be applied to the irritated or
inflamed parts, like the ordinary cold
creams. It isn’t unpleasant and the
prompt relief afforded is very wel
come, particularly when the eruption
is accompanied with itching.

The advance sale of seats indicat

good sunt as a result of the contest,

in the height of the tourist season,
when many Americans and other for
eigners are in Paris.
The selection of Georges Carpen
tier, the French champion, as referee,
is also considered likely to draw a
large following as he 1b an Idol among
the Parisians.
Classes Greek Reserves
Called to the Colors
Athens, Greece. —Seven classes of
the Greek naval reserves today were
called to the colors, the official ex
planation of the mobilization being
“the increase of the fleet and the na
val maneuvers to begin next week."
The step is understood to betoken
determination by the government to
be prepared for all eventualities, al
though there is an apparent slacken
ing of the tension between Turkey
and Greece.

OLD QUERY COMES UP
New York. —The betting question at
race tracks came to the front again to
day when authorities considered the
cases of eleven men arrested yesterday
at the Aqueduct course changed with ac
cepting cash bets.
In accordance with court decisions, no
action has been taken when oral betting
