Says the Chicago Hoard of Health
Bulletin:
"About 67,500 babies are horn In
Chicago each year. Approximately
30,000 of these babies die before reach
ing the age of two years. More than
one-half of those deaths are from pre
ventable diseases, therefore they are
unnecessary deaths.
Think of such awful slaughter In
these enlightened days more than
equalling three Titanic disasters every
year
Out of every hundred deaths under
two years of age, thirty-five are due
to disturbances resulting from im
proper foods and feeding, about OS Per
per cent of these being avoidable; 26
are due to accidents and defects at
birth about fifteen per cent being
avoidable; 3 0 are caused by the im
pure air diseases (pneumonia arid
bronchitis), 75 per cent lielng avoid
able; two are caused tiy acute conta
gious diseases, 300 per cent being

League a necessity.
Through the generosity and Interest
of Augusta folk the league has start
ed Its work, but are you going to help
'< to continue it?
Ho far all of the money needed has
no' been pledged, and all that has been
pledged has not been deposited to the
credit of the league.

ENTERTAIN.
The 1-adies Auxiliary of the Order
of Hallway Conductors were very
pleasantly entertained last evening at
the home of Mr. and Mrs, J. I. Lively
on I 'ope avenue. The house was beau
tifully decorated for the occasion, the
artistic scheme being the work of
Miss Corinne Browne, in the white
and green or the colors of the Order.
Musical selections entertained the
guests and there were several inter
esting little talks given by the mem
bers of the Order Delicious punch,
erearns and confections were served
during the evening, which proved
most enjoyable to all present.

went surgical treatment for his eyeß,

orable condition. Dr. Johnson was
with him during the operation and has
been in charge for some time. Mr.
McKenzie Is with his sister, Mrs. M.
L. Johnson, on Monte Huno.
