about thirty of the greatest tennis play
ers in the country to join in the busi
ness of competing. Of this crowd. 20
are among the greatest present-day
players while the* others are old in
ternationalists and famous players of
other days who have not been given a
real rating in the tennis world this year.
The general . opinion is that Maurice
McLoughlin, the red-headed Californian,
who was the greatest factor in Am
erica's victories last year, surely will lie
one of the four men chosen, and. as was
the case last year, carry the brunt of
America’s fight. U. Norris Wiliams,
Second, who teamed with McLoughlin in
the international matches, also seems
pretty sure of landing a job.*
R.* Lindlev Murray, the 17-year-old
California school boy, who jumped to
the fore in the tennis world just a few
weeks ago. is a likely looking candidate.
Murray, despite the fact that he had a
lame shoulder, scored a brilliant victory
over Frederick R Alexander, hero of a
hundred tennis duels, a short time back,
and his playing' was of the kind that
stamped him at once as a tennis marvel.
Another factor in Murray’s favor is that
he Is left-handed, and it is figured t>y
some that his left-handed service would
be baffl ng to the team that met Am
erica in the finals.
Among the tennis stars who have been
invited to try for places on the defend
ing team are:
Maurice E. McLoughlin. R. N. Wil

Pullman Cars For Whites
and Negroes in S. C.
Columbia, S. C. —Tlie state railroad
commission Wednesday heard testi
mony from the Pullman Company and
railroads operating in the state at a
hearing to show cause why they
should not provide separate Pullman
and sleeping cars for white persons
and negroes.
The Pululman Company and the
railroads argued that such a require
ment would be too great a financial
burden in view of the small number
or negro Passengers. The hearing
was the result of action taken by the
railroad commission. A decision is
expected w’.thin a few days.

Thousands of people suffer from eye
troubles, because they do not know what
to do. They know some good home rem

none for their eye troubles. They neg
lect their eyes, because the trouthe is
not sufficient to drive them to an eye
specialist, who would, any way, charge
them a heavy lee. As a last resort they
go to an optician or to the five and ten
ant store, and often-times get glasses
that they do not need, or which, after
being used two or three months, do
their eyes more injury than good. Here
is a simnle prescription that every one
should use:
5 grains Optona. (1 Tablet)
2 oui ces Water.
I'Se three or four times a day to bathe
the eyes. This prescript on keeps the

weeks. It is good for the eyes, and will
not njure the most sensitive eyes of an
infant or the uged. Any druggist can
fil this prescrption promptly. Try it

Great Question!

tried family remedy—an external ap-

fy its use in all cases of coming

of the Immense relief it affords. Particu
larly do these knowing mothers speak of
the absence of morning sickness, absenco
of strain on the ligaments and freedom
from those many other distresses usually
