Bibb County has generally bean placed on tho Joe Brown aide of the political ledger, but the general consensus of opinion hare now la to tin* etfect that Senator Smith will this time receive a fair majority. The Joe Brown advocates urn contending that their Candidas will gain strength as the campaign progresses. Many citisens of Macon w ho formerly voted for Brown, have this time become strong supporters of Smith. There Beams to be a de cidinl lack of thq old time factional feeling. Judge Nat Harris Gains Strength. Reports from the Nat liarriß head quarters here are all to the effect that the Macon gubernatorial candidate is gaining strength every day and In all sections of the state It Is believed lure that Judge Harris will carry South Georgia, almost solidly and that he is making great Inroads lu North Georgia According to local politic ians. Macon will give him an almost : unanimous vole Judge Harris, him self, is extremely busy with his cam paign atrft Is making several speeches a day this week. A local "Knight of the Grip" who lra\els South and Southwest from Macon staled here a day or no ago that he had noticed an Increase among tho Hardwick supoprters in the sections through which he travels, lllhh County will of course give n good majority to Thomas S. Georgia may yet realize Crawford Wheatley’s dream of years and have a lieutenant-governor, the house hav ing reconsidered action on the bill creating the office, which was lost the previous day only, by lack of a constttutoinul majority. The new county of Treutlen, pro posed to he made out oi the northern half of Montgomery, with Soperton as the county seat, has caused a sharp tilt on the house floor. Minter Wim berlyT of Macon, rose to reply to an attack made on him in the Montgom ery Monitor, in which he was accused of being employed by business men in Soperton lo push the new county l>fnn through. He marie a reply in terms which hardly could he called parliamentary. The bill to create the county was defeated. The senate has before It a hill providing for con<pulsory arbitration of strikes and lockouts, authorizing tite commissioner of labor to appoint a commission to settle disputes and empowering him to summon wit nesses and get the facts. Vigilant and Fountain City, wan j held last night at Castle Hall in the j presence of a concourse of friends of | the Knights, among whom were a large number of ladies. The exercises, which were extremel” impressive, were open to the genera! publie and many of the frtends of the members of the order here took advant age of %the opportunity of seeing such an event. It is not often that such an occasion comes. Opened With Prayer. The exercises were opened with pray er hy Rev. W. T. Hamby. Hon I). G. Fogarty acted as Master of (V emonies and introduced the Break ers. His remarks of introduction wer always teeming with j)itp of wit and were at ad times happy and gracefully delivered.
