BROUTHERS OERICKED STONE
AND THEREFORE WON GAME
Timely “Yanking” of Collegian and Replacing Him With Win
chell Was the Real Cause of Yesterday’s Game Being Won
By Augusta By Score of 8 to 4—Clark Wslte the “Run-
Producer” Yesterday.
Macon.—Manager “Babe” Brouthers*
outfit of Augusta Combaeks captured
the first of the series yester
day afternoon from the Tigers by the
score of 8 to 4. Macon batsmen failed
to hit several times with men on the
bases and therefore the defeat. The
locals started to scoring on Stone in
the third inning, piling up two runs,
and then two more in the fourth. Tin*
same “stunt” began to show signs or
a repeater in the seventh, but Man
figer Brouthers showed good judgment
and promptly derrieked the collegian,
replacing him with Winched. “Winch”
settled down from the beginning and
pitched magnificent ball, holding the
local team well in hand. There were
two errors made by the visitors and
four ly the locals. Clark, the litll *
second sacker for the visitors, man
aged target an rrfor charged to' him
by trying for all the hard ones, a
great many of which he stopped.
Clark did th> slugging for “Babe’s”
niinp yesterday, out of .five times at
bat he clouted the pill for a clou b e
and two singles ad made two < f them
score. Nothing outside cf a two-bav-.
hit was registered, and tli- Tigers did
not even manage to get that far, but,
however, there were eight singles
made.
The game was delayed for* three
quarters of an hour on account of wet
grounds:
