MACON TIGERS OUTCLASSED
AUGUSTA CLUB YESTERDAY
Manager Stinson's Outfit Defeated the Combacks by Score
of sto 1. Bowden Started It With a Home Run, Bring
ing in One of His Team Mates.
Yesterday’s game won’t be gone
into any further than to say that af
ter Bowden lifted the sphere over the
rigth field fence, good for a home
run, bringing in one of his teammates
that it was one of the rankest exhibi
tions ever put up by the locals.
Macon iput up a very nice article of
ball, Lewis easily featuring in his
sensational one-hand catches, while
prancing around the center garden.
Well, there is certain to be a better
game of ball this afternoon and in
cidentally the other afternoons to
come, so don’t give up hope, Colum
bus lost along with the Combacks
yesterday, so there is no worry on
the score of the Foxes pulling the
locals out of the third place, but,
however, Brouthers’ set is gotog to
find itself and get back in the swim,
and then lookout Charleston and Al
bany.

SHAMROCK IV IS
IT THE AZORES
Challenger for the America
Cup Makes Voyage in 7 Days
From England. Fine Sea Boat
Hortafi Faya!, Azores. —Shamrock IV,
Sir Thomas Upton's new challenger for
the America cup, arrived here today hav
today having taken seven days and three
hours for the voyage from Falmouth,
England.
According to those on board the
Shamrock proved herself an excellent
seaboat. In hard blows she took the
big seas like a duck and slipped the
water with great easr. Coftyoyed by
the steam yacht Erin, the Shamrock left
Falmouth at 5 o'clock on the morning of
July 21. At noon she was ten miles
west of the Lizard and then she was
taken in tow by the Erin as a dead calm
had fallen and the tide was setting her
back. The same evening the challenger
picked up a breeze and the line was
slipped. The blow soon increased to a
hard noth-northwesterly wind which
churned up a heavy sea in which Sham
rock made a fine picture as she rose
easily to each wave. On that day she
averaged ten knots an hour for the 24
hours.
On the next day conditions were simi
lar but the weather was finer and for
ti»e rest of the voyage the wind grad
ually slackened down until at times
there was a dead calm. Then the chal
lenger would be taken in tow until the
breeze strengthened.
The best day s runs were 240, 222, 189. I
142 and 162 knots.

Everyone lias been co-operating to

give way to Old Sol and that gentle
man will kindly shine forth In ail Ids
glory why the day could not be more
complete, in fact this state of affairs
would lie the crowning glory.
The ticket sale Is going fine; the
the stores are going to tlose, the
clerks are coming in hatches, the Na
tional guardsmen will also be, there
with the rest of the crowd, and to top
it all off with there is going to be a
record-breaking attendance.
Tickets.
Tickets have been on sale all of ihis
week at the John J. Miller cigar store
and the 1,. A. Gardelle Drug Store and
the sale at these two stores could not
have been better, there's but a few
more left.
Barker will probably be used In tills
afternoon’s game, so therefore it will
be Winched, the “iron man” to do the
twirling tomorrow. Old "Winch" Is a
favorite, and It's a two to one shut
that that he will come out of the box
tomorrow afternoon with the fans

Now here Is the chance for the fol

bat and ball, to register a "score” In
his favor for said "set.” How? Why
just simply play ball to the best of
your ability, that’s what makes a ball
player popular, at least In this section.
With the game of the afternoon and
that of tomorrow chalked up in the
win column of the local bunch It won't
take long to hold the honor of setting
