tors of the new tourist hotel signed
a contract with Mr. J. F. Champlin,

being built on the site of the old

Mr. Champlin has been manager of
the Ocean House for the past
thirty years and comes to- Aiken with
a reputation unsurpased as a suc

best hotels patronized by summer

that Mr. Champlin caters to is the
best. These are the class of guests
he will cater to in Aiken and no doubt
his large acquaintance will keep the

I agree with your contemporary

Importance. For It was declared in
17*9 by the first National Assembly of
France that “ignorance, neglect or

sole causes of public misfortunes and
corruptions of government "
And long before the days of France's

DECLINES DECORATION BY
THE EMPEROR OF RUSSIA
Paris—Monsieur Rene Vivlanl, pres
ident of the council of ministers, one
of the most popular public officials
in France, recently declined to be dec
orated by r the Emperor or Russia. It
was on his visit to St. Petersburg
with President Poincare that Mon
sieur Vivlanl indicated that he could
not accept one of the Russian orders
which w'as about to be offered him.
Vivlanl thus follows the democratic
ideas of Gladstone and Arthur Bal
four, the conservative leaders, who
refused titles. The Emperor of Rus
sia, in place of the decoration, of
fered Monsieur Vivlanl an object of
art as a souvenir of his visit to Rus
sia.

Neglected throat trouble, and con
tinued coughs and colds, often weaken
the system. Investigate reports of re
coveries brought about by Eckman’s Al
terative. Here is one:—
Convent of St. Anno, Sanford. Fla.
“Gentlemen:—Tn February, 1911, four
doctors examined my throat and pro
nounced the necessity of an operation.
Having heard at T’eekskill, N. Y.,
Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Fran
cis, where I was visiting, of Eckman’s
Alterative, T determined as a last re
sort to try it. AfteY* taking four or five
bottles large pieces of diseased tissue
came away. I continued the Altera
live, to my grateful and daily relief. In
ten months I was restored to perfect
health. I would like them to see and
hear from my own lips, if they so desire,
all I would say of it.”
