Speculators---Final Workouts
Both Teams Today
Philadelphia. —Determined to wit
ness the first contest of the world's
championship series between the Bos
ton Nationals and the Philadelphia
American league team tomorrow,
more than a score of fans took posi
tions outside of the bleacher entrance
to Shlbe Park last night.
Hundreds of the reserve seat tick
ets fell Into the hands of speculators
who are asking $35 for a seat of
three $5 tickets. The price for a set
of $3 seats was $25 and for three $2
tickets sls was asked. Several ar
rests already have been made and the
Athletic management announced that
they would prosecute the prisoners.
Biggest of Demands.
Never before, it was said, has there
been such a demand for admission to
the big games.
Both Connie Mack and George
Stallings today expressed confidence
in the outcome of the series. All the
players of both teams were said to be
in the best of condition.
While neither manager has inti
mated who would pitch the first game
it was generally believed that the
honor would fall to Bender of the
Athletics and Rudolph or James for
Boston.
Last Workout*.
Both teams planned to have their
rinal workouts today. Manager Stal
lings had requested the use of Shlbe
Park for this afternoon and It was
reported that he declined to use the
grounds for practice at all when Con
nie Mack refused his request. Mack
had offered him the grounds for two
hours this morning but declared he
had planned for the Athletics to ap
pear at Shlbe Park at 2 o’clock, the
hour set by Stallings for his afternovn
practice.
The Mackmen are prevailing fav
orites at long odds In wagers that are
being laid.

TO BAR LIVE STOCK

Swaintbore, Ga.—We hate to be
forced to say It, but It la a fact that
Instead of keeping forging ahead In
this as well as other matters, Sw&lns
boro has jumped ten years backward
In the matter of now allowing stock
to run at large on the streets Instead
of impounding them as has been the
custom for several years. This la not
only filthy and detrimental from a
sanitary standpoint, but it Is very
trying to the majority of our citizens,
and especially the ladles, having to
be pestered day and night by a lot of
old cows, horses, goats, hogs and
other animals. Ws have not taken
the pains nor trouble to Investigate
who Is responsible for this condition
of thing*, but whoever It Is should
move to the Ogeechee or some other
swamp, and spend their day* among

varmints.—Forest Blade.
