middling. Imports 1,242 bales including.
901 American.

NEW ORLEANS SPOTS
New Orleans. —The continued slump In
spot prices in the interior and especial
ly the drop of five sixteenths of a cent
at Dallas, caused an easy tone in the
local cotton market and January traded
at 7.43, the lowest price since liquida
tion of contracts started following the
outbreak of the European war.
With Dallas quoting middling at 6
1-4 on sales of 16,054 bales, local spot
people found it impossible to do much
business.

CHICAGO GRAIN MARKET
Chicago, lll*—Expected decrease In re
ceipts at primary points had a bullish
effect on wheat. Opened 1-8 to 5-8
lower, then rose well above last night's
level.
Com followed wehat. Opened from
unchanged to 1-4 off, followed by a mod
erate general advance.
Some export Inquiry helped to firm
oats.
Higher hog prices steadied provisions.
Assertions that wheat's advance had
checked export demand brought about
later a decided setback. Closed nervous
1-2 to 3-4 cent net !ot\er.
Slowness of eastern cash Inquiry led
afterward to a corn downturn. Closed
steady at 1-2 to l-2a6-8c net decline.
