the telephone service and so far with
out avail; so that now I take this
means of making my two complaints
public.
First:—
My telephone rings, I answer It. It
is somebody who wants to speak ta
me, sav. and we begin to talk. But,
no sooner do we get well started, with
the receivers pressed against our ears,
than the hell rings again. This is
about as pleasant ns being hit on the
head with a club. We snatch the re
ceivers away, while everything swims
before our eyes, and wait for the up
roarious bussing to cease before we
begin again. As soon as we are well
launched In a second try, off goes the
hell again. This will keep up some
times until one of us calls up Cen
tral and asks her for the love of mercy
and salvation to stop ringing the bell.
Then she says: '"Scuse it, please! '
and we are left impotent and helpless.
Poor Miss Central, with a thousand
calls to attend to no doubt; we are
ashamed of having been rude. But
Isn't It possible for the young lady
to find out when we are connected,
without our having to call her up and
tell her so?
The second complaint Is much more
serious, and practically Inexcusable.
I call a number, get it, transact mV
business, say good-bye, and hung up
the receiver Then I want another
number. I take off the receiver and
wait a long lime. At length I hear
Central say: "I'm ringin' ’em!" Befo rp
1 can say a word she Is gone, and In
a moment my same number answers
again. I have to apologize and say I
arn trying to get Central. Again, af
ter along wait, she Informs me quick
ly that she's ringin' 'em. I sin all set
and primes! to catch her attention wh m
ah* answers. "Central!! 1” I yell ut

TEA —J. B. White Special
Blend has no equal. It is a
60c tea which we iIQ
have priced at .. ..
the top of my lungs. But no, she rings
the same number again. It seems im
possible for her to understand that I
could finish with one number and want
another. Often It Is at least five, and
sometimes ten, minutes before I can
get her attention to give her the sec
ond number. It would he so easy for
her to say “Operator" whenever I ring
her up, and not take It for granted
that I am merely impatient and that
my first number has not answered.
That Is the solution. If Central would
only answer each time she Is calleJ,
and see what people want, Instead of
Jumping to conclusions, she would
save herself as well as the public a
world of trouble. If my first number
has not answered It wlj( he very easy
for me to give It over again.
