"The Brazilian minister in Berlin
has requested thirty of his country

Cholera?—“Ridiculous!"
“The reports that cholera had
broken out in Berlin are ridiculous.
“Count Beroldingen, whose mother
is an American woman, has been
awarded two iron crosses for the fol
lowing exploit:
“One day he appeared among his
comrades wearing the raincoat of an
English officer and found that they
did not recognize him. Consequently
he slipped away to the French lines
and once there demanded that he be
taken to some one who could speak
English, preferably the commanding
general. This was done. To the Eng
lish commanding officer he said. ‘I am
an English adjutant. When will ytpu
attack? What are your positions and
what is your plant of action?’
Convinced Own Commander,

troops wore successful in frustering
the French outflanking evolutions.
The Vienna Reichspost declares
that recent English diplomatic at
tempts at Constantinople have result
ed in failure and that England is now
too weak to fight the Turks.

NOT SUBJECT
TO SEIZURE
Solicitor of U. S. State Depart
ment Lays Down Principle
That Staple, Even When Ship
ped to Belligerent Country, in
Neutral Ships, Not Contra
band.
s
Washington.—Continuing its policy
of forcing out n. complete code for
regulation of shipments of American
product?, not only to neutral but to
belligerent countries, the state depart
ment Saturday announced a decision
relating to exports of cotton seed oil.
The decision markt a distinct advance
in the exemption of semi-contraband
goods from seizure when carried In
American bottoms.
This declaration, In effect, Is that
American irade in cotton seed oil in
neutral bottoms is not subject to seiz
ure or detention, not only when des
tined for neutral countries but when
shipped to Germany, if not intended
for military uses.
To Holland Bhfpmanta
The British government has assented
to so much of the proposition as re
lates to shipments to Holland of neu
tral goods, such as foodstuffs which
The Netherlands government has em
bargoed for exportation.
The solicitor's opinion goes beyond
the mere matter of cotton seed oil and
lays down the principle that cotton is
not contraband and Is not subject to
seizure even when shipped to a belli
gerent country, providing it Is on Am
erican or other neutral ships. There
fore there Is no Impediment to the
shipment of American cotton to Ham
burg consigned to German shippers.

If It's a Question
of Wear
You can't expect cheap silk
hose to stand hard, every
day use. It requires the high

strength and evenness of knit
ting, to make silk hose that are
practicable for general wear.
McCall uni Silk Hosiery
McCallum Silk Hosiery has
excelled in these qualities for
more than a quarter of a cen
