Chicago.—Wheat advanced today on
higher quotations at Liverpool and be
cause of continued falling off In north
western receipts, both sides of the Can
adian line. The start, 1-8 to 1-2 higher,
was followed by other moderate gains.
Corn hardened on account of wet
weather and as a result of wheat
strength. After opening 1-8 to 3-8 up
it seemed Inclined to hold to the top
level leached.
Kxrort sales put firmness into oats.
Provisions advanced.
Kepoi ,s that Portugal had declared
war on Germany. led to still holier
wheat prices. The dose was trong at
1 1-2 to 2 1-8 above last night.
Material improvement In eastern de
mand further favored corn halls. The
close wjs steady at l-Bal-4 to 3-8 net
