With Same Violence.
“Our left wing: The German offen
sive continued yesterday with the same
violence In Belgium and In the nortn
of France, particularly between Dlx
mude and Dys. In this region In spite
of attacks and counter attacks on the
part of the Germans we made slight
progress on almost the entire front ex
cepting at the village of Messisnes, a
part of which was again lost by the
allied troops.
“The enemy undertook an Impor
tant movement against the right bank
of the Aisne also resulted in failure.
The same outcome attended several
night attacks delivered In the heights
of the Highway Desdames.
Near Rheims.
“In the region of Rheims: Between
the Argonrie and the Meuse and on the
heights of the Meuse there was no
ticed yesterday a recrudescence of ac
tivity on tlie part of the enemy's heavy
artillery The bombardment of these
pieces, however. dI(T not show any ap

"On our right wing an offensive
movement of reconnolsance by the en

show Uttle change In the situation in
northern France and In Belgium but
events In Boland would appear to be
shaping themselves for a renewal of
the fighting between the main forces
of Russia and the Austro-German al

"The Austrians and Germans have
completed their retirement to new po
sitions previously selected by them.
When the vanguards of the Russians
who were following them came Into
touch with this new line there were
several encounters In which the Rus
sians were driven off.
In Deeperste Stand.
“The Austrians In southern Galicia
have succeeded In crushing back the
Russian left flank, which for several
days had been making a desperate
stand in carefully prepared positions
between Turka and Stary-Bambor. The
Ruaslans employed the pause In the
fighting after the Austrian retirement
from this region to entrench them
selves They built strong field for
tifications which were made more dif
ficult of acres* by the broken natur.'
of the country. Consequently It was
a hard task to eject them. The Aus
trians claim a complete victory and
report that the enemy was driven from
all his positions

In Belgium is contained in statements
made public today by Pier-e Mall, Bel

The Importance of the Rockefeller

realized when it Is known that not
more than ten days’ supplies remain
for the Belgian people, according bo
Mr. Hagenaers, who added: “This aid
could not come at a more fortunate
time. A splendid organization has
been provided throughout Belgium for
the distribution of supplies which Is
recognized by both the Belgian and
German governments. This organiza
