CHICAGO GRAIN MARKET
Chicago, Ills.—Wheat developed fresh
strength today on account of continued
brisk export demand. Foreign bids seem
ed to follow the market upgrade al
though prices had reached the highest
level in two months. Offerings here
were quite liberal at the start, but the
bull side soon had the most adherents.
After opening 1-4 off to 1-8 up quota
tions sagged a trifle and then rose well
above last night’s level.
Corn was steadied by the strength of
wheat. Buying was only moderate.
The opening which was unchanged to
1-1 higher was followed by a alight set
back.
There seemed to be no urgent call for
oats. The market however was sustain
ed by sympathy with other grain.
Provisions advanced sharply owing to
a big increase in the price of hogs, the
result of the closing of the stock yards
here. The greatest upturn was In pork,
which on some sales showed a rise of
as much as 45 cents. On the bulge,
packers sold and some reaction ensued.
In later dealings the wheat market
eased off because of profit taking by
longs and as a result of predictions of
larger receipts southwest. -The close
was unsettled, a shade to 7-8 under last
night.
Estimates that the new corn crop
would be 78,000,-000 busheds more than
indicated a month ago brought about a
decline. The close was steady at 3-8
to 3-4 under last night.
