of the expenses of living to all within its business zone, whether its customers or not. This point is
considered unquestioned and at least one government values it to the extent of rendering financial
aid in time of business depression to a large department store to prevent its closing its doors.
The Department Store is not necessarily from choice philanthropic, but it is enabled through
systematic and intelligent buying, coupled with unequaled facilities, to make purchases at the lowest
possible prices and on the other hand with many departments of stores under one roof with one
management, its selling expense is reduced to a minimum so that it CAN sell at prices proportionate
ly low. It DOES sell at low prices believing it good business policy to make quick turn-overs with
the stock, thus keeping bright new goods on display at all times and bringing volume of trade with its
resulting many friends.
It means convenience in shopping which can best be appreciated by those living in cities
where there are no modern department stores. Think of being able to buy everything you need
under one •'oof; with a sea Room, you are not even compelled to leave the building for lunch. Think
ot being able to buy furniture, carpets, etc., at low cash prices and taking practically a year in
