Echols' pastorate of four years at
Asbury Methodist Church. It Is
needless to add to what has been
wrttten In these columns as to the
devotion of pastor and people, and the
consecrated work of Mr. Echols. Kls
going removes one from our midst
who has won the affection of all
classes, and if there Is such a thing
as promotion In the ministry of the
I,ord Jesus Christ he hits won it. Ho
leaves the church, too, In a better
condition to do real constructive work
than It has enjoyed In twenty years
or more.
He will preach a special sermon at
11:15 a. m, to the Baraea Class of the
Sunday school; at 4:80 he will preach
at Man's Memorial Church, and at
7:80 he w'lll deliver his last sarmon.
The theme Is a very appropriate one,
"Finally, Brethren, Farewell," He will
doubtless have large crowds at each
service.

John's Methodist Church, will preach
two helpful sermons today. At the
morning hour he will preach on "The

"The War Debt. Who Pays the Bill?”’
Dr. M. Ashby Jones, pastor of the
First Baptist Church, has taken for
his theme a question that Is being
asked and answered by millions today,
"The War Debt, Who Pays the BUI?"
Dr. Jones has made a special study of
the question, and is highly qualified
with his analytical mind, to give an
answer that Is worth hearing. At the
night service, 8 p. m„ Dr. Jones will
deliver the third of his series on the
home. The theme is, "A Knock at the
Door, or the Enemies of the Home.”
Large crowds will hear each sermon.
Quarterly Conference at Broadway.
Dr. W. T. Hamby, presiding elder
lof the Augu: ta District, will hold the
’ last quarterly conference at Broadway
Methodist Church this evening at 8
o'clock. This will mark the close of
Dr. Verdell’s third year and the church
Is gaining ground. Mr. Verdell and
wife have greatly endeared themselves
to the church and community. At the
night service stewards arid Sunday
school superintendents will be ap
pointed for another year.
The Sibley Settlement Home.
The Sibley Settlement Home will
hold a reception and donation from 10
to 6:80 i>. m. Tuesday. The home
under the able leadership of Miss
Cummings Is doing an excellent work
for the children around the Sibley
Mills. All the Baptist Woman’s Mis
sionary Socletius are more or less
Interested In the work- A large at
tendance Is expected at the recep
tion.
North Georgia Annual Conference.
The North (leorgia Conference will
meet Tuesday night at Marietta, Ga.
The pastors and presiding elder from
this district will go up Monday and
Tuesday. The lay delegates will go
at the same time. The law of con
ference limits each district’s delegates.
The Augusta district has four. They
wore elected at the district confer
ence in July of this year. From Au
gusta two delegates were chosen.
They are Messrs. Chas. Baird and
Julian Smith. Mr. Baird is from An
bury Church and Mr. Smith from St.
John's. These gentlemen represent
the best of our community and they
will take a noble part In the confer
ence.
Rev. O. P. Gilbert on “A Nobte
Layman.”
Rev. O. P. Gilbert, pastor of the
Second Baptist Church, will preach a
special sermon at 11:15 today on “A
Noble Layman." The sermon has as
Its soil the story of the good Samari
tan. At the night service he will
preach a special sermon In the Interest
of law and order. Public cordially

were present. The out of town guests
were Mrs. Hen Booz of Chicago. 111.,
and Mrs. Bessie Aldred of Davlsboro,
Ga. During the social half hour the
hostess served a full salad coure and
tea.

Adrian, Ga, are the guests of Mr. and

The Order of the Eastern Star gave a
play entitled "A Kentucky Helle " tn the
Opera house at this place on Friday
night, the 13th Inst. A large audience
was present, and the play was a decided
success There was never a dull mo
ment from start to finish, and this en
tertainment more billy demonstrated the
fact that Harlem haa some specialty
bright stage talents. A nice sum was
realsed, the proceeds which go to the
educational fund for tha Masonic Home
at Macon.
