Figures Are Issued 18 Months
After Passage of Alien Land
Law in State.
Sacramento, Cal,—Japanese hold
ings In California land, a year and a
half after the passage of the state's
alien land law which excited diplo
mats of two nations, are set forth In
a report today by the statistician of
the state board of agriculture.
The Japanese own 331 farms In
the State, comprising 12.725 acres and
valued at $600,000 I,ease holds, which
are permitted under tha isw, amounts
to 17,536 arres
The Japanese also own 216 town
lots valued at $235,875; they have
2,548 places' of business with more
than four million dollars of capital
Invested in them, and on this capital
do business amounting to $16,000,000
yearly. They pay about $1,000,000 a
year rent for business places. Jap
anese renters on share basis are not
tabulated in the report.
