Upheaval in Personnel of Con
gressional Committees. Chair
manship Vacancies Created.
Washington.—Effects of the recent
election on the personnel of congres
sional committees was shown today in
an unofficial list naming members who
will not be in the sixty-fourth congress.
Bex-eral of the committees lost some
of their most active 'members. Of the
democrats on the committee on ex
penditures in the postoffice department
none remains.
Committee chairmen who will not
appear in the next congress include:
Post, Ohio, elections committee No.
I; Goldfogle, New York, elections No.
3; Gudger, North Carolina, expendi
tures in the postoffice department;
Graham, Illinois, expenditures in the
interior department: Rotherland,
Pennsylvania, expenditures in the de
partment of commerce; Underhill, New'
York, industrial arts and expositions.

of the banking and currency, including
all four members ranking next to the
chairman, while the foreign affairs,
Indian, interstate commerce, military
and public lands committees all lost
one-third of their membership. Somre
of the smaller committees lost half.

Poisoning.
Marietta, Ga.—Almost the first act
of the North Georgia Methodist Con
ference Wednesday, was the naming
of the new Methodist University. It
will be known as Emory University,
and legal steps to adopt the name will
be taken in the near future.
Emory College, at Oxford, Ga., will
be a branch of Emory University, of
Atlanta.
Dr. J. E. Dickey, president of Em
ory College, read his report as presi
dent and also Joined in the discussion
of the naming of the new university
He approved the merging of the in
stitution and the removal of the head
of the school to Atlanta.
To officially assume the name, it
will be necessary for the conference to
carry the matter through the courts.
This is expected to take some months.
The conference was opened by
Bishop Collins Denny, who read the
fourth chapter of I John and made
comments.
W. B. Dillard was elected secretary
of the conference.
Dr. H. M. Dußose read the rules of
order of the body which were ordered
printed.
The presiding elders of the various
districts submitted their reports and
their characters were passed upon.
All their reports were said to be fav
orable.
The list of supernumeraries and
superanuated ministers was called.
The following were referred to the
committee on superanuation:: Revs.
J. H. Little, J. A. Timmerman, J. E.
Rorie, J. L. Ware and J. E. England.
Classes for the first and third years
were called.
Last night there was an address by
Dr. C. D. Bulla, of the Sunday school
board of Nashville, Tenn., to the an
niversary meeting of the Sunday
school hoard.
Dr. Lovejoy Dead.
Marietta, Ga.—Dr. W. P. Lovejoy,
presiding elder of the North Georgia
Conference of the Methodist Episcopal
Church South, and prominent in
Southern religious movements for
many years, died here last night from
an attack 'of ptomaine poisoning. He
was 73 years old.

Washington.—After deciding In fa
vor of North Carolina In the boundary
controversy between that state and
Tennessee, the supreme court today de
termined to prevent further disputes
by drawing an exact outline of the lo
cation and not relying upon verbal de
scriptions of the line. The drawing,
done by Justice McKenna will be in
serted into the printed opinion, which
will be the first in a decade to be il
lustrated.
The court has given the states 40
days in which to nam£ commissioners
to mark the boundary line as estab
lished. Should the stales he unable to
agree upon officers the court will se
lect them.
RESUME ISSUING
TRAVELERS CHECKS
Naw York. Representatives of
banking Institutions and companies la
suing travelers' checks decided at a
meeting here that banking conditions
abroad have so far advanced toward
normal that the sale of travelers'
checks for use In all parts of the world
can be resumed. It was urged that
notices authorizing banks and other
agents to sell the checks for use abroad
he sent out today. It was early In Au
gust that representatives of the same
issuers of travelers checks agreed to
discontinue temporarily the sale for
use abroad and to restrict the sales en
tirely to persons intending to use them
In the United States.
