MANY HUNTING QUAIL IN
GEORGIA FIELDS TODAY
Atlanta, G«. —Early trains to the
country today bore a very different
looking lot of passengers from the us
ual run. There were men In khaki and
boots, with gun-cases under their arms
and setters and pointers, eager to feel
! the stubble beneath their feet The
I two railroad stations resembled a dog
I show in full blast
For today Is the first of the hunting
| season in Georgia, oh, of course, the
I law has permitted the chase of the
• cat squirrel and the deer and migra
, lory ducks for some time, but not
w hat <!;e southern hunter calls “birds."
Today Is the first rbs«ce at the quail.

the only honest-to-goodness game In
Georgia.
For a week the game wardens have
been busy issuiing licenses and the
sporting goods stores have sold enough
powder and lead in the form of shells
to blow up a fortress. There is no
such ardent hunter as your city man,
who must travel fifty mlless, perhaps,
to get a shot at a bird, and the man
who has a friend with a big planta
tion full of quail Is the envy of his
associates.
The state license permits a hunter
to kill as many as 25 quail or plover In
a. single day, or forty doves, If he can
find that many. No game can he trans
ported by rail except that in the pos
session of the hunter, ho nobody can
keep that promise to “ship home a box
of birds."
