A PERTINENT “WHY?”
For several days recently, says tho
society editor of the Athens Banner.
I have been going to the sessions >f
the canning dub convention, agents'
meeting, etc, being held at the agri
cultural hall. (And incidentally I'll
say that every housekeeper in Athens
would have gone had she realized what
is being done, If sbe dreamed what
help she would have received). In
demonstration work carrots were used
that had come from Florida via Cin
cinnati. The carrot Is a winter vege
table that In this climate can remain
our all winter.
Lettuce from Florida. Beautiful let
tuce can be had in Athens all winter
(unless it be an unusually severe one)
if covered with leaves or old sacks.
Parsley is shipped from Florida. Tt
can ulso be grown out of doors if giv
en a little protection.
Preserved figs were used one dny to
demonstrate commercial packs. These
were grown in Louisiana, shipped to
Ghlcago where they were put up. then
sent to Georgia and sold. One dozen
for forty-five cents.
