CHICAGO GRAIN MARKET
Chicago Wheat holders continued
nervous and there was a. further down
ward price swing. Attention centered
largely on the apparent cooling off in
the export demand. Opened l-s to 3-4 c
down, followed by a moderate further
setback then a fair rally.
Corn eased off with wheat hut sub
stantial support wits forthcoming and
tndst of the decline was overcome. Open

Recent heavy oats sellers turned to
the buying side. Prices held relatively
Steadier than other grain.
Provisions dropped on a.decline in the

Subsequently, although renewed heavi
ness ensued, seaboard advices that
bushels had boon taken for ocean

NEW YORK COTTON
New York.—There was continued real
izing in cotton early today and after
opening unchanged to 7 points lower, ac
tive months sold about 7 to 10 points
under yesterday’s closing. Rather a
sharp decline at Liverpool was followed
by foreign selling orders here while there
was active liquidation by Wall Street
and Western longs, as well as some sell
ing by New Orleans houses. Offerings
were taken on a scale down by covering
by recent sellers, investment buying or
a little trade support and there also
seemed to be some demand from Ger
man interests, but theVe was consider
able talk of a further reaction on the
expectation of increased interior spot of
ferings.
Trading was Jess active later in the
morning and prices rallied. Active
months sold 3 or 4 points net higher
shortly after midday on covering or
fresh buying, which seemed to be chief
ly inspired by continued absence of
Southern hedge selling, and smaller of
ferings of long cotton after the heavy
realizing of the past two days.
The market turned firmer during the
afternoon on an increasingly active de
mand from trade and investment sources
and reports of continued firmness in
the Souther spot situation. Prices sold
about 12 to 13 points net higher earlier
in the last Jrour, or more, than 20 points
above the low level of the morning.
Cotton closed firm.

NEW ORLEANS COTTON
New Orleans. —Liquidation «$f cotton
contracts was resumed as soon as the
market opened today and the offerings
worked against prices, although cables
were favorable and spot accounts from
Southern markets were encouraging.
Half an hour after the opening, prices
were 9 to 11 points under yesterday’s
close.
Fresh buying met the decline and
gradually increased during the morning,
with the result that the lower prices
were replaced by a net advance which
at noon amounted to 8 to 9 points.
Better prices in Southern srt>t mar
kets and buying by spot interests put
prices to a net advance of 11 to 13 points
by 1:30 o'clock.
Cotton closed firm at an advance of
15 to 17 points.

NEW~YORK STOCK MARKET
New York.—The swift pace maintain
ed by yesterday's market resulted in
further profit-taking at the outset to-,
day. most of the leaders yielding frac
tionally with a loss of 1 1-4 for Cana
dian Pacific and 1 point for Rethlehem
Steel. Preferred shares of the latter
company gained 1 3-4 points, however,
in recognition of its Increased dividend.
Rumely common descended to a kiwer
price as a result of receivership proceed
ings. Tile list stiffened perceptibly be
fore tile end of the half hour under lead
of Reading and Union Pacific.
Closed strong.
A feature of the last hour was the
further rise in numerous low priced
stocks and bonds, especially the Gould
group. Standard stocks .also bettered
their position. St. Paul and American
Telephone gaining two points with many
one point advances in others.
