ion, last night was sentenced to serve!
three years in the federal penitentiary

sue out a writ of error today, taking

trict court's finding, the case will lie
appealed to the cupreine court of tlie
United States.
Release on Bail.

the court officials until the case was
settled, he said: **l don't understand
that."
There are two other indictments
against Perkins, each Charging assault j
and battery with intent to kill. They
cover the cases of Captain Ingram of]
the Clyde Liner Mohawk and R. 11.
Wright, of Ftlca, N. Y . a passenger,
who were slightly wounded by Per
kins before the chambers of the pistol
were emptied.

Dr. Meriwether belonged to a fam
ily noted for its intellect, culture and

He married Miss Martha Lanharn,
who died some years ngo. Of six chil
dren horn to them, only a daughter,
Mrs. F. L. Middleton of this place, and j
a son. Mr J. G. Meriwether, of Al
lendale, survive.
Dr. Meriwether was a prominent Ma
son, and will be buried with Masonic
honors tomorrow, in the Bethlehem
cemetery at this place.

found a deserted compartment. Not
only had June disappeared, hut her
hat and cloak were gone.
He walked through the entire train
anil found she was not there. He
questioned numerous passengers, and
finally found she had alighted at the
last station. Jumping from the train
at the next stop he rushed to the tele
phone and called up the station mas
ter at the point she had left the train.
Ye*, such a lady had waited at that

ical drama, but it is not all of the
Strand's program today.

sented in “Ambushed," a thrilling
drama adapted from the Munsey Mag
azine story by Chauncey C. Hotch

A synopsis of “Ambushed":
Young Frank Mitchell, who terms
hitnseif a modern man of law, is sum
moned to draw up the will of I,ady
Darnely, who wishes to leave her en
tire estate to her favorite niece,
Mabel, and nothing to Bothwell, her
nephew, except in the event of Mabel's
death, when he would inherit every
thing. Bothwell learns of the con
tents of the will and straightway
plots to get Mabel out of the way.
He secures the assistance of Smith, a
daring criminal, and the two take
Mabel by force to a deserted house,
situated near a lake, just outside the
city.
Young Mitchell, by accident, learns
of Mabel's plight and plans to rescue
her. He makes his way to the desert
id house and overhears a plot to kill
the heiress.
Ttie criminals finally set fire to the
house, and the young lawyer rescues
,'.label. They find, a rowboat and at
tempt to make their way to an island.
Mabel sleeps in the hut all night,
while Mitchell keeps guard outside
the door.
The hero and heroine nre pursued
by the criminal nephew and his aids,
let are outwitted by the young law
yer.
Detectives, who have obtained a
clue to tlte missing heiress, with tho
assistance of Mitchell, finally round
up the gang in the young lawyer's
office.
Mitehel! and Mabel then discover
they Ipve each other, and the drama
come s to a happy conclusion.

fifth ward held Thursday night, Mr.
D. L. Kuhlke was nominated for city
council subject to the primary. Mr.
Kuhlke is well known in Augusta. He
was a member of council for one and
a half years under the Dunbar admin
istration and for three years under the
Barrett administration.
