Interesting Results of Cook
ing Tests Conducted By
Miss Cepalie Lewis
The cooking tests now being con
ducted by Miss Cephalic Lewis made
with the Chambers Fireless Gas
Range by Gas Company, at 854 Broad
street this week demonstrated a new
ora In cooking efficiency. It is claim
ed by the makers of the Chambers
Range that it cuts cooking gas bills
in half, but in the tests held here
William 11. Matlack sales manager
of the company states that the gas
was really burned less than one
fourth of the total cooking time, and
that the balance of the cooking pro
cess was completed without gas. The
possibilities for economy, freedom
from kitchen drudgery and better
cooked foods arc a revelation, it is
said, to the women who witness the
demonstration.
The hood-like device called the
“Thermodome” and the Insulated
Oven of this new range are so con
structed that the gas is burned for
a few minutes to start the process
of cooking and is then turned off.
The “Thermodome” lowered over
the open burner, or the Insulated

Miss Cephnlle Leiws, demonstrator
for the gas company says "a woman
using this new equipment Is free,
after the gas is turned off, to leave
her kitchen for the entire afternoon,
food will not burn, even if it is left
in the oven or under the "Thermo

and ready for serving for several
hours.”
This is the first time the Augusta
house manager has ever been pri

tills kind. No expense has been spar
ed by the company to make It a suc
cess and those in charge of the work
are experts in their respective lines.
It Is claimed that the new method
of cooking also retains all of the rich
juices and food value ordinarily lost
in cooking, and that the apparatus Is
always fresh and clean because of
construction that causes it to he

Says Gas Prices
Are Regulated by
the Coal Market
TULSA, Okla.—Gasoline prices
will be regulated by the market
price for coal, Walter C. Tragic,
president of the Standard Oil Com
pany of New Jersey, said in a state
ment made public here Wednesday.
Ho based Ills statement on an anal
ysis of the pterolelum situation by
the company.
Under existing conditions, gaso
line can be obtained from fuel oil
in many Instances at a cost lower
than It can bo obtained from crude
petroleum, Mr. Teagle said. ‘'Fuel
oil is sold in direct competition to
coal.” ho said. “The reserves ot
coal are greater and more certain
than reserves of petroleum and the
price of coal so affects the price of
fuel oil that gasoline Is affected In
proportion.”
