MOSQUITOES
By L S. WOLFE.
As many Augustans have been tor
mented by the virions little mosquito,
especially during the last few nights,
It would not be amiss for them to
study the habits of this very annoy
ing and aggressive little insect. As
it is generally known that still pools
of water, however small, are the
brtedjng places of the mosquito it
can he easily explained why at this
time there are so many of these in
sects, with long proboscis. In the city.
Innumerable pools and puddles have
been left by the recent freshet In
ceilarr. drains, etc., and as It has
been just a little over two weeks
broods of mosquitoes have had time
to hatch out and now Infest the town
generally.
There are three kinds of mosqui
toes to be considered In this local
tty; The house mosquito (ctilex pi
pirns), the malarial mosquito
(anopheles marulipennis), and the
yellow fever mosquito (strgomyia

The house mosquitoes have clear
wings, and when alighted their body
lies parallel to tin; object on which
they rest, while the malarial mosqui

body rests at a considerable angle
with the surface upon which it alights
Then the yellow fever mosquito with
Its handed legs, sliver striped thorax
and abdomen can be readily distin

The life history of llu-so three spe

an example, the house mosquito
